2020 push cart options: BagBoy Nitron vs Clicgrear 4 vs BigMax vs ???

Recommended Posts

So I will be purchasing a new push cart this spring. Amazingly my Clicgear (Version 1 with the pneumatic tires, etc) finally went out on me in the spring. I was planning on purchasing the Clicgear 3.5+ without much research, but when the 4 was released I started to do some research. I see now that there are a lot of great options available now. I'd love some input

BagBoy Nitron

This is what I am leaning towards. I saw it in person as was blown away with how easy it was to open and close. It's also SO small with folded. I thought the quality was great and liked how it appeared to hold the golf bag more vertical.

Clicgear 4

This seems to be the go-to for everyone. However, I've had some annoyances with my Clicgear that sound like they were not solved. (Legs from my stand bad get in the way and cause the bag to twist).

BigMax

This bag's claim-to-fame is actually not a big preference of mine. I dont love how it folds flat, the tighter rectangle of the two mentioned above will actually work better i my trunk. BUT, I love how well they thought about creating a slot for the stand bag legs as well as how much lighter it is than both the options above.

What does everyone think?

I was going to get a Clicgear but was actually in Wichita, KS and stopped by the TGW store and checked out their tour 3 cart. It looks very similar to the Clicgear 3.5. I was impressed. Seemed well built like the clicgear. It included a few features that would cost extra on the Clicgear like a cooler/bag and an integrated phone/gps holder. Best of all it was $100+ cheaper than the clicgear. I bought the black/white discontinued color for $139, the blue or black ones were $159. The downsides were that it doesn't have a hand brake only a foot brake, doesn't fold quite as small as the clicgear and doesn't have all the accessories, but for $139 I'm satisfied with it.

I would consider this one: https://www.tgw.com/golf-carts/golf-push-carts/tgw-tour-4-wheel-push-cart

I have that same cart, except from when they were still CaddyTek brand and not rebranded to TGW push carts. I'll be on my 3rd season this year and everything about the cart has been great. My only one knock, is that I wish it had a hand brake on the handle instead of the foot brake down by the wheel but that isn't really a big deal.

OP, what kind of bag do you have?

If you have a Sun Mountain stand bag, I can't recommend the Bag Boy Quad highly enough. The base is PERFECT for those bags and it sits rock solid. The cart itself is shorter in length and slightly lighter than the ClicGear 3.5+. Deployment and takedown was way faster as well, no cozies, boosters, or tour bag kits needed. The only thing I actually missed was the steering knob.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record (remember those?), I'd like to put in a word for the Clicgear Rovic, especially the non-swiveling-front-wheel version. It's less expensive than a Clicgear 4.0, folds smaller, and it has a much better "platform" for the bottom of your golf bag than the goofy, bent tube of the Clicgear 3.5 and 4.0. It also has the "rubber band" bag straps found on the 4.0. And, it's just as well built. I don't know why the Rovic doesn't get more love.

SO did the OP get the Nitron?  I plan to order one and would be interested in his experience. rbilramz?

I have a Nitron and really like it’s convenience of opening and closing compared to the Clicgear which I have used in the past.  The Nitron is a little lighter which is a pro and a con.  I feel that the Clicgear is more stable due to a wider wheel base and heavier weight.  The Nitron saves your body some energy due to the lighter weight. Overall, I still prefer the Nitron.

@bcc69 Thanks!  I ordered it and should be here for my round on Tuesday.  Been just a very occasional hacker the last 30 years or so and wanted to get back to taking this game seriously and get some exercise. Invested in new clubs (Taylormade SIM) and wanted to replace my old pull cart. Trying to sneak away from home office and get 9 holes walking in several nights a week.  (Walking is no charge with my course membership, so even if it gets dark after 7 or 8, i am out nothing) Thinking the push cart will keep me from over exerting (I am after all 56 YO now) and new stuff always encourages you to get out there - I think.
