Cobra MIM Black wedge and Cobra King Tour irons

Mim Wedge:

"Cobra uses a metal-injection molding process to construct the head rather than the usual forging or casting. This method, which includes a custom blend of two kinds of steel, reduces hand polishing, leading to a softer metal and keeping the integrity of the sole shaping and weighting. The face’s spiral-milling pattern provides surface roughness on square- and open-face shots. New for 2020: twice as many loft-sole options"

 

King Tour irons:

"Improvements in materials and manufacturing allow clubmakers to go beyond what they’ve done before. This iron is proof of that. The King Tour irons are made from a blend of 17-4 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel to provide a softer feel while maintaining durability. That material is then manufactured using an ultra-precise metal-injection-molding (MIM) process, marking the first time a full set of irons has been made this way."

So, are the king tours a replacement for their current Cb/Mb set? I was told by a rep there was nothing new coming out in that line.

The Forged Tour irons aren't on the official Cobra site as of right now - so I'd guess a replacement for those. I know they were on there in the fall for sure

They were a pretty old model - pretty sure they mostly just re-named them for a few generations, with no big differences

Small changes for sure. I have a set of the most recent with tungsten in the toe and sole. The previous just had it in the toe.

I would think this is a different model. A continuation of the fly z plus, king forged tour model just an evolution of design and the new mim technology combined. Just a guess. The kft were a fantastic iron with minimal offset. Curious to see how this plays out. This model is well over due for a replacement.

Exactly. Looks like a replacement for the King Forged Tour irons that Bryson plays. Now the irons are made using their metal injection (MIM) process instead of forging. I think the King Forged CB/MB irons will remain unchanged this year, but eventually go the route of metal injection instead of forging. Must be what Ricky is trialing with the proto blades he has been spotted with. Lately Cobra has been a pioneer with manufacturing tech using CNC face milling and metal injection.

The wedges look like a carryover from the previous MIM wedge line, just a new black finish.

These irons and wedges have been rumored, but it looks like Golf Digest spilled the beans on this one.

I was told this is gonna be Dufner’s iron, and yes released around May, which is terrible! I told my rep they are gonna miss a lot of selling time bringing it out in May, so they should just hold it until next year and bring it out with Fowler’s new blades!

Fly-Z+ forged irons had tungsten in toe & heel on all iron heads. King Forged Tour only had tungsten on 3-7 irons. Not much change at all, and even going back to Amp Forged (bright orange) are close to the same design with tungsten in 3-7 irons. All of them are fantastic performers that often get overlooked. I'm looking forward to hitting the 2020 King Tour.

The 2017 king forged that had orange paint fill on them only had tungsten in the toe. The 2019/18 version has tungsten in the toe and in the sole of all irons.

I think you guys might be on different pages. I have the King Forged 2018/19 with the tungsten in the sole and toe. The King Forged Tour was the split cavity from a couple years ago that was like the AP2, for comparison. It had tungsten everywhere, lol

I’m definitely interested in this line up. The MIM wedge has been out for some time now and no reviews anywhere that I can find. My local PGA SS has them for sale, but not demo. Anyone hit these things?

Also, the fly z+ / king forged tour are a very underrated iron. One of those sets of irons I always wanted to play but never did.

Forged Tech are something completely different, @QuigleyDU is talking about the irons Ricky has been using until late last year, pure blade short irons with CB long irons.

Which were solid heads. This new iron replaces Fly Z+/ KFT line with undercut cavity filled with elastomer still (black). Doesn't appear to have any tungsten plugs either.

I have a buddy that’s plays the MIM wedges. They are very good and soft.

The only thing I’ve heard about the MIM is that it feels very nice off the face. I thought the King Pur wedges were very nice, especially the versatile grind. These are supposed to be softer.
