Weights are same as Epic Subzero fairway:

Head weight should fall right around 195G. A quick Google search pointed me to Golf Alot. They put the club’s total weight @ 295G at both club lengths 44.5” with 12G weight or 45.5” with 5G weight.

Everybody's different of course and that's a mighty impressive list.

FWIW, I used the Fusion for 2 seasons and loved it. Changed about 10 months ago to the Epic Flash SZ (NO diamonds LOL) for about 10 yards more carry and at least an extra 5 yards or so (hard to tell) of roll with a Hzrdus Yellow shaft in it. BOOM.

The store just happened to have a Hzrdus Yellow in the rack because it was one of the stock shafts for the Rogue and they'd left it there. I tried it and it was much better than the other shafts they had for the Epic Flash. Bought the head and shaft separately on eBay for about $325 total.

Thats great to know, unfortunately I'm pretty sure that i am maxed out on distance with driver, the only way to get longer is for me to increase swing speed. After trying a ton of combinations of different drivers and lofts and shafts, it is truly surprising how all the companies have a driver which gets me to within 2 mph of my best hit. It seems there is no difference once u get dialed in. With some drivers i had to decrease loft and some i had to use a ultra low spin shaft while others it was the complete opposite. Im sticking with the Fusion for now because it is a fairway finder in addition to being ridiculously long. But haha if a Flash TC should falll into my lap, i will certainly take it out for a spin.

Well, I'm sure you know that the COR, or rather CT, has been maxed out for over a dozen years. That is why, with best hits for any driver you should get max distance that is VERY close.

And I'm sure you realize that if you're swinging at your max speed and your launch conditions are within a window that's more or less "perfect" for your SS the only thing left is consistency of direction.

So if you don't think you can improve on the consistency/direction you've found your magic wand.

How so ? Pics ? Links to them ?

The most distinctive feature about the Fusion is its "triangular" shape, kind of like the older FT-iZ(?).

The only pics I've seen are from the bottom and from that vantage point it doesn't look as though the "Mavrik" is a triangular shape.

Agreed! The pics that have been posted of the Mavrik driver don’t look triangular like the Fusion. I have seen the Mavrik shape compared to the shape of the EF Triple Diamond shape which isn’t super triangular. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I borrowed a 2nd hand Fusion from the Pro at my club as I had a Fubuki k shaft with Callaway adapter I wanted to try before pulling the adapter to put in my Cobra F9. Now I have a Cobra F9 for sale ?

I hit 3 decent drives with my cobra to get some base line numbers. I had to delete a couple of miss hits. I then hit the Fusion and instantly loved the sound and feel of the head, loud but thwacky. At the end of my testing I decided to hit a few more and ended up hitting 9 drives in a row. I was very happy with the results.

Sorry I've had to re-register with a new user name as my original one was registered with an old email I no longer have access to so I can't upload the screen shots of my numbers.

Gamer was a Cobra F9 10.5* with Hzrdus yellow HC shaft, 3 shot averages were as follows

Ball speed 146.9 - Launch angle 13.6* - back spin 2262 - Peak height 32 - Carry 253 yards.

Cally Fusion 9* with Fubuki K shaft, 9 shot average numbers as follows

Ball speed 147.8 - Launch angle 15.3 - back spin 1815 - peak height 34 - Carry 263.

As I say Cobra F9 for sale ?

What impressed me was the 10 yards extra carry and the accuracy left to right and front to back was the tightest I've seen. The forgiveness is superb here is an example of two shots with very different strikes that both went 262 carry.

Shot 1 - Ball speed 150.9 - Launch 14.1 - spin 2398 - peak 37 - Off line 17.8r - Carry 262

Shot 2 - Ball speed 143.2 - Launch 18.4 - spin 1110 - peak 32 - Off line 5.1r - Carry 262

I've only played 36 holes with the driver so far and I'm so impressed with the consistent performance. I'm longer and more accurate then I was with the Cobra.

For years I gamed the callaway ft-3 driver head that was the tour version. Wanted to try it because Alvaro Quiros was smashing drives in Europe like 375 on the regular with it.

I used an old flowerband white 73x in it, and was really happy. It’s been out of the bag for a few years. Still had it in the garage.

recently got the new subzero with the Hzrdus smoke shaft 6.5. Kinda love it.

on a whim I decided to get the same smoke shaft used from a local club fitter, I three it in the ft-3, and OMG. Not nearly as consistent but 1 out of 3 drives were obliterated.

the technology has definitely improved in driver heads but not nearly as much as it has improved in shafts!

shafts are everything!

I'm the original poster and very pleased to see how this thread has grown.

But after flirting with a bunch of other drivers and always going back to the Fusion, I seem to have found a combo which has benched it.

I had a proper fitting at the tip joint in my town, and was fitted into the Cobra F9 and an Accra i42 shaft.

I've done a few rounds and launch monitor sessions and the results and numbers seem to indicate a slight but real improvement, mainly in consistency rather than extra yardage.

But I'll be keeping the Fusion just in case.

I've been a fusion fan for several years. My collection consists of 5-6 (I lost count). Most are the tour version with various shafts. I was using the the FT-3 up until two years ago when I purchased an Epic flash sub zero. I do think the Epic is a little more forgiving but when I pure one with the FT-3, It's as long. I always thought the technology in the FT-3 was far beyond what was available at the time. I still think that Callaway incorporates some of the FT-3's design in their present drivers. THE MOST INFORMATION I CAN ADD TO THIS COMMENT IS VERY INTERESTING! Around 2013, I was at a Callaway demo day. I showed up with my FT-3 driver, the same one Phil used in 2004 when he won his first Masters. The FT-3 was officially introduced in 2005 if Google is correct. While at the demo day, one of the reps came up to me and noticed my FT-3. He looked at it like it was some sort of Holy Grail and proceeded to tell me that even up till then, Callaway has yet to make a driver that went longer. I think that said a lot especially since the club was first introduced 8 years before. I am thinking of trying out the new Mavrik, but not until I clean the dust off a couple of my FT-3's and give them a few hits.......

Did many people go from the fusion to the G400 Max?

I went from Great Big Bertha to G400 Max, but I have the 9 degree Max head and need to be launching it a little higher. I'm considering either the Max in 10.5 or the fusion in the same loft for half the price...

  • 4 weeks later...

Slight thread revive and bump due to ummm, world health circumstance lol.

Wondering about this question as well since TM Sim/Cobra SpeedZone (SZ)/Callaway Mavrik/Tour Edge EXS 220 have been out a few weeks now and hopefully some folks have been testing and comparing.

I've been itching to cheat again on the Big Bertha Fusion with all these new releases. I'm still playing the "heavy" head at standard length alternating between the Paderson VMT and Paderson IMRT Green shafts. It's been about 3-4 driver cycles now, and, from pictures I think the SZ and EXS 220 have the most similar head-shape compared to the BB Fusion .

Well the Mizunos are gone from last year, they were almost as long and not as forgiving. back to the Fusion with fuji evo 3 661 stiff, straight, forging and as long as anything. G400 Max was picked up in a trade and it’s no more forgiving and frankly is not as long with the stock 55 stiff shaft. Now did some testing recently with the Mavrik, Sim, and st200. Now the st200 is more forgiving than the st190 and as long as the Fusion, so soon as I sell the ping and get a st200 we are set for this year, have another fuji Evo 33 661 stiff that will go in the St200. Done, ready for 2020 but I’m guessing the Fusion will still be the champ.
