Driver fitting today

Hey guys

I had a driver fitting today. My gamer is a 2016 m2 with Tour Ad Di 6x. Below were my averages

m2- 105.1 SS, 152.7 ball speed. 1.45 smash factor, 2712 spin, 98ft height = 251.7 carry and 275.2 total

They fit me into the following

Mavrik sub zero 10.5 with Hzerdus Green Smoke 60 TX

Mavrik numbers- 105.0 SS. 154.9 ball speed, 1.48 smash factor, 2130 spin rate, 79 height= 254.8 carry and 287 total.

Definitely improvement but my concern researching this hzerdus shaft is (from what I read) it’s way to stout for me with my swing speed. It didn’t feel board and felt pretty smooth but google tells me it should be too much for me to handle.

thoughts?

Where did you get fit and how much is that shaft as an upcharge? It seems to be a weird fit for your swing speed, and makes me wonder if you could achieve similar results with a stock extra stiff shaft.

that said, if you liked the feel and the numbers and trust the fitter, maybe it’s the best fit for you?

It was at club champion. It’s an expensive setup and i would piece it together myself because I don’t want to spend 1k on a driver.

You gained 13 Yards total but only 3 in carry. 2mph ball speed. I'd pass on the whole thing unless you've got money to burn and wait until next year, buy this exact set up for 60% less. Most of your gains are from the computer assuming you'll be playing on bowling alleys for fairways, which most of us do not. If you do.. Then... By all means, I'd build this set up yourself.

Thanks that was my thoughts. The spin was higher with my gamer setup (2700 to 2100) but again nothing too bad with marginal increase. It looks like my gamer setup fits me pretty well

What was the dispersion and consistency between the two drivers? Also, it looks like your launch must've been low with the mavrik with a height of 78'. Might be able to add loft and still be fine spin wise to get a better carry.

Dispersion was a little better than my gamer but both were pretty good.

my gamer was 9.5 and Mavrik 10.5

There's no denying the Mav is better, but it's really not by that much. I'd say that if you're a serious player and this club is to help you win some real $$, then I'd go for it. But if you're just out having fun by yourself or with buddies, not worth it at the moment if you pay full or close to full price for parts. Maybe if you found a sick deal on BST/Facebook MP it would be tempting.

I was severely disappointed with my Club Champion fitting. They tried to charge me $1600 for a driver and a 3i, lol. I was not a fan at all. I was going to gain 5yds of carry and 10 yds total with my driver and 12 yards of carry with my 3i. I ended up doing my own testing and went to a setup that cost me $175 and bought my own 3i shaft for $120 plus $22 for install, length, loft, lie and swing weighting.

I mean, how are they still even in business?

Yeah CC told me i could find the components cheaper but they certify the build, pure the shaft, and make sure rbs swing weight matches what i hit which was D5

Instill feel it’s not worth moving unless I can find a logos deal and match the head and shaft myself. Just still shocked my numbers were decent with that Hzerdus shaft.

Yeah... honestly, I have a buddy who was in talks to run the Louisville club champion and the sales numbers he needed to hit were worrisome.

the expensive extra stiff shaft is troubling for me at a 105 swing speed... unless your transition is really aggressive, I don’t see how you’d be in extra stiff. I wasn’t in the room, and have 0 fitting experience, but I did stay in a holiday inn last night (I actually stayed in a homewood suites, because my wife has Hilton points, but whatever).

regardless, I’m not sure if you hit any other extra stiff shafts, but something you might want to try. You might also want to try stiff shafts that are stiff in different sections (butt, mid and tip) and see if you can find one that loads better but has the stiffness that was working for you in the hazardous... just a thought.

Yeah I hit quite a few. Even though my swing speed isn’t off the charts 105-110 max and my transition is pretty smooth I load the shaft pretty hard. I hate the ball going left so I di t like feeling the club loose and turning it over

Not a gain I’d pay for, personally. Also not convinced that it was an amazing fitting job... you gained 2mph of ball speed and lowered your spin by 600rpm and only picked up 2 yards of carry which suggests less than optimal launch on the recommended setup. Out of curiosity, how did the numbers look with the Mavrik SZ head on your current shaft?

i thought about that in the way home. They didn’t have a tour AD Di 6x there they could plug into the Mavrik SZ. I was thinking of maybe trying to get a 10.5 Sz off of eBay and Throwing my Shaft in it. I’m glad I went for the experience but prob won’t do it again. My specs and feel for what works for me seems pretty good. Not like I’m spinning it 4000 rpms or anything

There is no guarantee that throwing your shaft into a Mav SZ would work. Some people feel your gamer shaft plays soft to flex, which may be why your spin numbers are so high with your M2.

My opinion is that if you hit the center of the club regularly then the MAV will not be a huge upgrade. And you may be better off trying to find a lower spin combo for your M2(possibly lower loft and/or different shaft). Keep in mind though that it is common for less loft and less spin to negatively affect dispersion. So if you regularly hit fairways, how much is an extra couple of yards worth? Is it worth the bigger misses?

However if you hit all over the face on your driver, the MAV is a sizable upgrade because your average distances will likely be higher. But I think you could find a much cheaper shaft option to lower the spin.

Follow my DIY driver tune up, and the club you got now will be the longest on carry and total....Its quite easy to boost ball speed to 157, even 159 is possible and spin levels down against 2000

So save your money for now, this is FREE and it works, but keep us updated if you could make it too. (like many many others have)https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/909991/diy-driver-tune-up-diy-fitting/p1
