Bridgestone Golf Tour B 2020 Lineup

Played 18 with the new Tour B X today. Windy and cool, ~50 F all day. I’ll say I honestly think the new X is noticeable better then the ‘19 for me. Same great performance in the wind, long off the tee but where I found it really shined was from 110yds in and especially in the 70yds and in range. Felt much softer hitting chips and pitches and seemed to spin a ton more. Little softer off the putter face as well. I think for me the XS would spin too much. Needless to say the Tour B X will be my ball for 2020.

Just came back from playing 18 with the new BX. Super excited with this version! super long from the tee (but was also using my new SIM driver, so its hard to tell how much of the distance increase was which). But the most notable factor was as many have said before, in the short iron and wedge game, now I can spin this so well but still controllable spin. Amazing short game with this version!!! I also have a dozen of the new BXs , will try those on my next round :D I am a believer, guys!

I have played 4 rounds with the XS ball and it’s soft. Just really really soft. I am having a harder time drawing the ball vs a ProV1 or a Snell. So, for me, it’s not spinning as much on iron shots. Driver distance is MTBX like, which no other ball has yet to get to for me. Wedge spin is great but I couldn’t get it to one hop and sit down like I can with Prov1 or MTBX.

Summary: Soft. Long off driver. Not as spinny on irons and wedges as some other balls.

just my experience

Bought a dozen of the BX last week to test and today exchanged two boxes of ProV1x for the new BX. Just as good as the V1x but feels just a tad softer with a tad lower spin off long irons and woods but just as good spin off short irons and wedges. Not going to BS any of you and tell you its longer/straighter/spinnier than any other ball........ I just like the feeling of it at impact from all my clubs and it gives me the results I want

I bought a couple of sleeves today to try on my round (one RX and one RXS). Played exclusively with the RX and its my new favorite ball. Has just the right amount of softness that I prefer but still plenty long and has enough spin on the green to hold. Current gamer is Srixon XV; which I found to be a little clicky off the putter but due to price I lived with it. That said, the new RX just ticked all boxes for me. It will be my new gamer provided the RXS test doesn't knock it out (don't think it will though).

My initial response of one word was meh. But I got slightly more specific (?)

I must be honest that I looked for miracle ball from own high expectation of new tech fused ball; longer distance, softer feel, straighter flight.....

But I didn't see much difference from last gen of BXS after all. Perhaps I need to test more but I got too many other balls to burn in stock. And, I prefer BX but stick to MTB Black yellow.

I bought a sleeve of the X and XS to try out. I haven't had a chance to hit them yet, but I've rolled a ton of putts with the X so far. Man does it feel and sound good off the putter for a higher compression ball. Much better so than the TP5x which I currently play. I'm getting on my launch monitor tonight to compare. If it performs even close to the TP5x, then the Tour BX will be my ball for 2020. I've also never really noticed how much I love the simplicity of just the "B" on the ball rather than a bunch of writing. I've not played a Bridestone ball since the B330 and their old logo. It's something minor and simple, but just looks so clean compared to all other golf balls.

Your swing speed doesn't matter much if anything for a ball fitting. The ball that gives the best ball speed to a high swing player will give the best ball speed to you. As a ball gets softer though, you generally will see less spin off your irons (you can do things to combat this as the XS has more spin than the X). The RX and the RXS will have less spin than X and XS. The idea is that slow swing speed players will benefit from the lower spin because their irons will go slightly further and tend to run up on to the green. Bridgestone is using swing speed as an approximation for skill (it's not an exact approximation, but the correlation is strong). The higher your handicap, the more likely you are to be missing short and running things up to the pin rather than flying it to the pin and stopping it close. High handicappers also tend to not swing up with their driver and often present more loft, causing excess spin. The RX and RXS are designed to knock as much spin off with the driver as possible.

If you're a player though that already spins a tour ball with your driver in the low 2000's, the RX and RXS might not generate enough spin with the driver to keep your ball in the air and online. You also have to worry about the spin the drop off with an iron.

To be honest, I'm not sure I've ever really understood the point of the R balls. They perform very similar to things like the Wilson Duo Pro, TaylorMade Tour Response, and Q-Star Tour. But those balls are much cheaper.

I switched to the 2019 B X last year after giving it a try and really loving it off the tee. I hit it so straight that it was worth the trade off in terms of firm wedge/putter feel and low green side spin. I bought a dozen of the 2020 B X's and played 18 yesterday in reasonably nice conditions for PA, 50*, sun, light wind and have to say I was a little bummed out. They definitely feel significantly better off the wedges with more spin from 100 yards and in, and they definitely feel better off the putter but the long game point and shoot aspect wasn't quite there like it was with the '19 version, nor was the distance. I was testing them against the '19 ProV 1x and the ProV seemed to have the edge in almost every aspect. Better off the tee, better feel on the greens, better for lag putting, and just as good with the wedges. I caught a driver skinny with the ProV and then tee'd up a B X and felt like I absolutely mashed it and the B X was only about 4 yards further down the fairway. One of those "well that sucks" moments. When I caught them both well with the driver the difference was even more stark, 10-12 yards of carry in favor of the ProV.

All that being said, it was 50* in Feb in PA and it honestly could've been a run of bad luck for the B X in terms of me putting bad swings on the Bridgestone and good swings on the Titleist. I'm headed to FL next week so I'll get a chance to do a better comparison in warm weather but it certainly was not what I was hoping for right out of the gates.

I am currently testing the B XS, having played a Pro V1x for the past few years. Right away I noticed that it feels and sounds significantly softer coming off the club face, especially noticeable on the putter. So far I've played 9 and spent about 45 minutes around a short game practice area, and from what I can tell it spins just about the same as a Pro V1x around the green, at least for me. On full shots more testing needs to be done, really hard to say if any distance was gained, ball flight is about the same though. May have to wait until temps warm up a bit or daylight changes, then I can get out after work on the course by myself and hit both balls back to back.

I'm noticing the exact same thing with the long game as you. The 2020 BX seems to spin quite a bit more than I am used to - it's straighter, sure but the spin confused me to the point where i kept asking my playing partner yesterday (who I play with multiple times per week) if he's noticing my driver distance is down with this ball and he said it's quite noticeable. Back to the MTB-X - it's not as straight but the lack of spin and performance in the wind is better for my swing.

My pro gave me some tester packs of the BX. I have not played them outdoors yet. I want to wait until a bit warmer and less wet. We've had the most rain ever in GA. I did hit them using our Flightscope indoors. I tested against my gamer ProV1s. At this point, I am not seeing a convincing reason to change. Ball speed numbers are the same for me with my 100mph driver SS. Iron spin is lower which is something I probably do not want. Wedge spin is roughy the same for me. I may need to test the BXS but the previous version was too spinny for me. This is definitely a great ball and will probably fit and help some players but it is not a game changer for me.

I will say if you have a ball you are comfortable I don't really think any other ball will perform that differently to warrant a change unless your're just looking to change. I played the Tour B X all of last year and I think the improvements in the new one make it a better all around ball and I like the fact that its around $10 cheaper a dozen the ProV's. I also like, as someone earlier mentioned, the simpleness of the logo and the fact that it's not played by the majority.
