I would doubt Kohler would get involved in it, they've got their eye on a piece of land and are battling some of the neighbors to get it built...

 

Sounds like the current minority owner is working with a group to get it up and running before the season starts

If it was 46*, just a hint of a breeze, the sun was shinning and the snow was gone would you find a way to get out and play? I am in southern Arizona and those are exactly the conditions. The coldest day since January 1st and you would have thought it was Hades freezing over. Not a soul on the range and the course(s) were wide open. Walked a sweet 18 solo with no one in sight. Hit it, find it and hit it again. It will be 70's again by the weekend, but until then down jackets, knit hats and gloves are the standard for those who would dare step outside to walk the dog.

Anyone recommend a place that is either southeast WI or Northern IL that has multiple courses on it to play 36 holes for an opening day. Me and some friends played The Brute and The Highlands at Grand Geneva last spring. We are looking for something like that again.

Brighton Dale is a 45-hole muni kept in excellent condition about 10 miles east of Kenosha. Two 18-hole courses and a 9-hole course all championship length. Haven't played there in years but I still hear it's kept up nicely.

Check out Geneva national. Few miles from Grand Geneva. Took a trip there last summer and played each of the 3 courses twice. All 12 of us enjoyed it

Geneva National is an option, but I've soured on a bit on GN lately.

 

Why not play The Brute and Hawk's View? Or Hawk's View and Abbey Springs? Minimal travel between the spots. Similar would be Thunderhawk in Beach Park and Shepard's Crook in Zion. Less than 10 minutes from each other.

 

Brightondale previously mentioned has the holes, is a great facility, but the pace can be BRUTAL.

I have been a member out there for years. It's actually west of Kenosha but that's neither here nor there. The two 18 holers are challenging and well kept and if you tip them out one plays 6600 and the other 7000.

Very early season conditions may vary but when in full season they do a great job with the budget they have. I can't comment on the pace although I am sure it is slow as they get a lot of play. I am usually the first or second off in the morning with my group and if no one cuts in front of us we are usually done in no more than 3:30 and I push my bag while the others ride. Lots of good options up in this area but if you are looking for more than one course at a facility it is either here or out near Lake Geneva I believe.

Weather looking promising this weekend, I was going to head down to Pine Meadow in Mundelein,IL to hit balls as they are usually open but just curious if there were any other ranges in SE Wisconsin that anyone knew were open. I hit the simulator once this off season but for $30 a hour in the simulator, I would obviously much rather hit real shots outside.

The only thing I have heard is that the home owners around the course are putting together a bid to purchase the course... it's been crickets around here

Thx....I am not much help to keeping the place afloat as I'm a 50/50 member and a buddy and I went in on a Platinum Passport which gets us free greens fee for 2 (and many other courses)...still ?

Yep, he's the backer. Not sure where you're at exactly, but Pro Circle Golf in Spring Grove, IL is an option as well. Great place.

All of my buddies and I are 50/50 members also... but I do support them other ways... mostly by purchasing everything in sight in the shop

Lol, have made a few end of year sale purchases come to think of it, and a yardage book. Have had lunch and a few beers in the restaurant as well.

 

50/50 club is the best money spent all year for me.....? on that still being an option after hurdle one gets crossed!

I'm in Kenosha and unfortunately there really aren't many places around here to hit golf balls easily. Closest spot is probably Bristol Oaks which is a little out of the way from downtown and likely not open yet. I prefer to drive down to Pine Meadow in Mundelein if I really want to put in a session as they have the best range in the region in my opinion.

The range at Bittersweet in Gurnee is nicer than Pine Meadow. That said, I doubt either will be open tomorrow.

Yeah, I have no doubt PCG will be open on mats. They’ve got a great grass facility as well once the weather stabilizes, and it’s not an extra cost to hit off grass. I work in Kenosha, but live out west.

Really? Last time I was there all they had was a small putting green and a short range with no greens to shoot at. Pine Meadow has multiple tiered range with greens to fire at, 2 large areas to work on your sand and chipping game and three large putting greens. Other than Pine Meadow being a bit expensive and a 30 minute drive for me to get to I've had that as the best place for a multi hour practice session for years.

I was over there yesterday. Called Range Time and it is on the same property as Ives Grove golf course. Essentially on the corner of Hwy 20 and 94. It is a pretty nice set up from what I saw. There are 15 large bays with two hitting areas in each. There is a heater above each hitting area. All new Taylor Made range balls. No greens to shoot at but multiple large yardage poles. Inside was a good sized bar and two simulator bays set up for what I would assume are leagues. The range balls are all dispensed by automatic machines that you can pay for with a credit card. Fortunately I got there at a time that I didn't have to wait for a space to open but by the time I left at noon there were some people waiting. I thought it was a very well thought out and well done modern range. $12 for a large bucket of 100 balls. I was pretty tired after hitting 85 or so and walked away.
