909 F2 3 Wood 15.5* still gameable

Hi guys,

Currently looking at buying a 3 wood to add to my bag :)

Is the 909 still a good club?, have found one in great condition for $90USD and am pretty keen on it. I have a 910f2 driver and 912 AP2 irons so keen on keeping the titleist theme going.

Oh it has a stiff Tour AD EV-6s shaft if that is helpful

Any thoughts let me know

Those are still killer fairways IMO. $90 is a bit steep though, but I suppose the shaft is adding to the value there. I have one sitting in the closet with an X-stiff Diamana Blueboard that I picked up for $50, but you might be able to make most of your money back selling the shaft if you wanted to.

The difference you'd likely see between that and more modern 3-woods is forgiveness and ball speed retention across the face. Some of those older models are going to punish you more in that department if you miss the center. If it was anywhere near that <$50 mark I would say it is a no brainer, but at $90 you can get yourself a good condition 915 fairway which IMO are some of the best fairways out there and will outperform the 909, so personally I wouldn't drop that kind of cash on something as old as 909 unless it had a premium shaft in it that I really wanted.

Problem I have is I live in New Zealand so the selection of clubs is not as wide as the US.

Wish we had the options that you guys do

Much better! Looks like minimal face wear and a good shaft. That club would serve you for a good long time.

The Callaway X-Hot fairways are a very different beast from the Titleist offerings. I have an X-hot Pro 3 wood and just about everything is different. They can be VERY long but are less forgiving and much harder feeling off the face. Also that price is far too high for having a stock shaft.

Yeah I thought the price was a bit high. Do you have any recommendations that aren’t the 915? Or best to try and get that club if possible

Check the signature bud! That club is a beauty and with the old blue I have in mine, it's near impossible to get out of the bag.

Titleist fairway woods are one of the most reliably excellent club categories in golf. Every one is great with classic, timeless designs and a minimal amount of tech gadgetry. There are still a lot of 917, 915 and even 913 models (Webb Simpson) being played on tour by Titleist pros. Having said that, the 909s are more than 10 years old now, and while they're probably very solid, you can probably find a more current Titleist model for that price.

Fairway woods are very personal, and if you're wanting to stick with Titleist then the 915 is by far the best bang for the buck. Outside of that, It will really be up to your tastes and preferences.
