Do the newest Draw Biased Drivers lose MOI compared to Standard?

It was interesting to find that 2019 tests demonstrated that Draw biased drivers lost MOI versus the Standard versions. Does someone have some current numbers or a link to a test on YouTube or somewhere. Has the MOI gap closed?

Most interested in TaylorMade Sim Max vs Sim Max D, and Callaway Mavrik vs Mavrik Max.

Is this because weight is in the heel side as opposed to the deepest part of the driver?

The MOI and CG report tests likely won't be out until later this year on those drivers, but generally it is due to what @doctorjedi said. Due to the shape and structure of modern drivers, it is much easier to move weight further towards the heel than towards the toe, and part of that "further" includes the weight getting closer to the face as well, which lowers MOI. I doubt this will be much different with the newer drivers.

Yes. Moi goes up as weight goes toe side. I don't think the difference is significant tho

Yep, the cause and effect is understandable. I suppose I'm hoping the MOI difference is improved and less of a factor in 2020.

There's no difference to be had. Weighting, whether internal or external, determines the CoG which determines MOI. As weight is positioned back, moi goes up. As weight is shifted from back to a bit more toe side, moi goes up more. As weight moves toward the face, moi goes down. As weight moves toward the heel, moi goes down compared to weight back or toe side.

So, if the draw type drivers have less moi drop off compared to non-draw type drivers then they just won't be as draw biased as years before.

I would think such small measurement differences aren’t going to make the club play radically different. I was reading an article recently in which a club designer (Japanese designer) was arguing against getting MOI super high in a driver head. He argued that a certain point it has a negative impact on swing speed. I saw Titleist make a similar comment about the limits to the benefits of high MOI heads, hence the 430cc TS4 that Adam Scott just won with.

The Japanese designer said some golfers play better with the head rotating more freely into impact and those players can struggle to square a high MOI head, which to them feels bulky and hard to turn. He thought there was a point of diminishing returns with MOI. I had never heard that before so I thought it was interesting. His argument made me think MOI increases may have become something that gets more focus than it should.

I do know I have played several irons that on Maltby showed lower MOI measurements that I guess should have impact on dispersion but I actually preferred those models. So I started ignoring MOI in irons. I experience far more relevance with the C Dimension measurement, along with VCOG and RCOG.

I don't have scientific data to validate it but I agree with the Japanese guy. For some players, higher moi isn't always good.

The more the weight is back the less you feel the head in the swing and the faster the clubface wants to rotate closed. For better players, who tend to want to stay away from a hard left miss, that's no bueno.

Yes, but it shouldn't be a big surprise.

MOI is a measurement of ability to resist twisting.

The point of a draw biased driver is to be easier to close the face than on a neutral version.

But the difference should be negligible. If someone needs so much help closing the face that MOI must drop significantly, the focus should be on the swing.
