Theres a few poster reviews in the callaway mavrik woods thread in the pre release forum and a few people posted their thoughts head to head in the SIM hybrid thread.

Its good. I think the head shape is really nice. Interestingly to my eye the face looks very straight with almost no bulge. It could be just how the scorelines are all the way across the face though. It has a more metallic sound to it and is nice and compact. It will fit nicely in many players bags. As hybrids go it is not too fade bias.

I have the 4H and love it. I tried both the Mavrik standard 4H and the SIM rescue, but the Mavrik Pro won out for me. I like the smaller profile and prefer that it doesn't have the huge bulge out of the back. I've been getting great distance and nice height with it. I opted to change out the standard KBS Tour stiff shaft for a stiff version of the shaft that comes standard in the Mavrik standard hybrid. I get really good ball flight with the stiff Catalyst HL shaft. I'm planning on getting rid of my 5 wood as when I flush the 4H, it is going about the same distance as my 5 wood (just with more height). So i'll be looking at a Mavrik 4 wood. Wish SIM and Mizuno offered 4 woods.

I am planning to go hit the 4-hybrid (and the TM Sim) against my gamer (TEE 119 22*). I am looking for similar distance and neutral bias, but with a little forgiveness that's more comparable to my old Apex 23*.

I will try to report results back in this thread, although shaft obviously won't be the same.

I hit the stock stiff 3h against the stock stiff SIM 3h. Looks wise I liked both, but slight edge to the Mavrik in all black and with a slightly smaller profile than SIM. Ball speed was a touch higher with the SIM (135 mph avg to to 133), but the SIM was an inch longer so negligible IMO. The Mavrik felt more fade-biased, and definitely sits open. I need that in a hybrid so I'm leaning toward buying a Mavrik, but the shaft options aren't great for a $250 club (is the stock KBS a made-for, or is this the same as the aftermarket KBS Hybrid Proto?).

I'm curious if others could compare vs. Apex '19 or Epic Flash hybrids since there are some better deals available for those.

hit a 23* today with a ad di 95x hybrid and it was awesome. didn't have the 20 to try or else I would have preferred that. But, it felt awesome, normally a 2 iron guy but this thing is actually anti hook and felt great.

Does anyone know if the 18* is available lefty? I know on the site it says RH only, but when you go to custom order one with a different shaft it gives you the option to get a 2H (18*)? Any idea? Maybe can only get the 18 degree Lefty if you custom order it?

Yes the the lefty is a custom order on the 18 degree. Was the same way with the Apex 19 Hybrid. I found out the hard way, did a custom order on the 20 degree with an AD DI 95x and later found out I could've gotten the 18 degree. Worked out great though, hybrid is crazy long carry is 240-250 with the three hybrid that fit perfect with my gap. The 18 degree would've been in three wood range.

Very Sure. Go to their site. Go to Mavrik Pro hybrid. When you click on Order, LEFT handed and then custom shaft it pops up the 2 hybrid and says 1-2 weeks. It's been like that since the original APEX. Trust me, I found out the hard way. I wanted the 18 degree bad and later found out you could order custom from the website. As someone stated earlier they will also bend it flat for you if needed.

If they don't know what's on their own site and has been going on for three plus years then that's a BIG problem. LOL

I hit it at a fitting and I liked it much more than most hybrids on the market.

It sat flatter and the face look straighter than the majority of hybrids, and I hit a controllable draw with it, where many other hybrids had a strong draw flight that turned into a hook when I came around it at all.

That all said, the Apex blew it out of the water in every category (looks, feel, numbers, and more neutral flight).

So overall I liked the MavPro compared to others on the market, but it didn’t win.

It was louder and more tingy than the apex.

It spins a tad less than the apex (more distance, less holding greens, I needed the latter)

It has a bigger footprint and sorta odd shape (to me)

It didn’t have the high boxy toe I prefer

It wasn’t as fade biased as I wanted

My take FWIW

Great. If you get after the ball, im telling you the 20 degree is a 250 club. 18 degree is going to be in the 260-280 range. Assuming your swing speed is up there since you're getting the 95x like I have. I carry to the 240-250 target at my range with the 20 degree apex 19 hybrid.

This doesn’t seem to get a lot of love, but I just picked up one of these in 18* and it seems like a very good club. Hot face. Nice mid trajectory. Distance wise it seems more like a 4-5 wood replacement because it bombs it pretty far. Honestly, really would cut down my need for a 3 wood except off a tee maybe. I’m not great with 3 woods, but off the deck I would always hit this hybrid over that.  For the shaft length, ball speeds are high.

I would definitely recommend this for mid and low handicappers looking for a 4-5 wood replacement or something you could use off the tee. The only issue is that it flies too far to be a true iron replacement and you would need to tee it relatively low off a tee given the lower profile face. Prices are pretty low these days.

This Mavrik Pro hybrid is money. Marked way down on CPO. Grabbed a 4 hybrid — the only one I ever consider playing as it has to slot between my 7 wood and 5 iron — and it is a very atypical hybrid. Does not have the big square toe and, despite the Pro moniker — it’s not at all demanding. High, powerful shots if you want but also easy to flight down.

If you don’t care for hybrids all that much due to the shape and look from address, it’s one worth checking out. Lots of great designs out there, not only the newest releases.

Still have the 18 and 23 in the bag now. Favorite hybrid ever
