I remember when I was in my early 20's and living in the Orlando area. I knew a strip joint (THEE DOLL HOUSE) over on Orange Blossom Trail that Ted always hung out at on Friday nights, so I would go there because I looked up to him. This was in 2000 and he was still a pretty well known name on the PGA Tour at the time. Plus who doesn't like looking at naked women everywhere when sipping on a cocktail? I refused to get lap dances because I was not there for that purpose. Ted and I had shared a few words with one another here and there which at the time I thought was pretty neat for a 21 year old who was playing on the mini tours aspiring to be on the PGA tour one day.

When I was speaking with one of the strippers she informed me that Ted always had after hours parties at his house, and she invited me one time to come over with the rest of them but I had a tournament the next day so I passed. I knew I would have definitely missed my tee time if I would have gone over there at 2 in the morning.

He was a big partier and ladies man back then from what I remember.

I am 70 and had to laugh when I saw "old-times and mid-90s" in the same sentence. Anyway, they quietly fade away to...

Au contraire ... anytime anyone looks back its from memory. Nothing to do with age as it's a frame-of-mind. I still run circles around people 30-40yrs younger, and beating -/+40 yr old youngsters. From my rear view mirror , too many quit on learning way too easily.

Those commercials for Tour Edge Exotics are beyond description. I thought it was a joke when first seen.

I can understand the others need to prostitute themselves for a little cash, but Lehman -------what???? He always seemed to be beyond that.

Guess my english isnt that good. Thing is, regardless of what you do now, you do have memories that we dont have. Maybe Jack in his prime, and stuff. I did start play earlier, in the beginning of the 80`s. But no televised golf in Scandinavia those days, save 3-4 tournaments per year. So we really only saw our own top players live, just read about the Watsons and the Suttons. Remembering things from a long time ago is hypnotic sometimes. Like coming back to a town where you used to live 15 years ago.

Speaking of Chris DiMarco (since his name has popped up in this thread a few times), I followed him at the Chubb last weekend for the front nine of his second round. He was playing with John Daly and Billy Andrade. For those nine holes he was 4 under. There isn't anything too exciting about his game except that he hits it in the fairway, on the green, and he makes putts. Daly was out driving both of them by 30+ yards, he can still move the ball.

DiMarco should catch a nice second wind on the Champions, his lack of length doesn't really hurt him much out there, and he can still roll his rock.

I was thinking that the whole time because I know Esteban won a couple of events and should be fully exempt----- I know Omar is a club pro now and played a couple of club pro events to get exemptions. I remember when he won one of the national events I was thinking this is not exactly fair because he had played the PGA Tour some and was used to the pressure etc. Which I do have to give him his props when he came off the PGA Tour he did go through the PGAOA program and earn his club pro status

MO Cat as we used to call him has to be getting up there in age. I would say he is around 65 67 or so now. A bud of mine from Charlotte used to caddy for him some in his latter career on the PGA Tour and the start of his Champions career. And yes he was one heck of a putter with that old Bulls Eye.

Did Uresti go through the GPTP? Exempt PGA Tour players are A-3 and do not have to go through the GPTP to retain their Class A status unless their break between the PGA Tour and their PGA of America membership runs too long and their membership lapses. I know Charlie Rymer went through the GPTP, and had to because he let his membership lapse after leaving the tour, and he is now a Class A PGA Professional. I don't think he had take the PAT to enter the program. The pushback against Uresti is mainly that he doesn't (or didn't) actually work as a PGA Professional - he didn't work in the operations end of a club and was not teaching. A club employed him to play with members and prospects, and that is all he did, he did not actually "work" and there was an aspect where he wasn't even technically employed since his "pay" was playing and practice privileges, not wages. Most club pros competing at the national level don't have issues with former tour players playing in section events, they do however want to see them working as a PGA Professionals. A club pro in Indiana sued another club pro for something similar; a guy was playing section events even though he was not working or teaching and was in fact a mini tour player trying to make a living playing the game, not in the business of the sport. Mini tour player got busted when a club pro reported him to the section, he was banned from section events (could still play "opens") and sued the other guy, which went on for years and mini tour guy eventually lost.

I was told by someone he did and that person is a lifetime PGAOA member. I used to be a PGAOA class A but let my membership lapse because I saw no reason to keep it up. Seems most courses here especially the Founders Group with 20 courses are backing away from PGA members. I know here they did have 2 PGM schools but one closed last year.

On that deal with the Mini Tour player I was told by someone in the Carolinas Section that the PGAOA did not give two hoots as long as a card carrying member paid their money dues. I can certainly see both sides of the coin on that deal. Back in the 80s I still had my card but was told I could not play in sectionals etc because I was not actively working at a course

Big Stu my curiosity got the best of me and I dug as deep as a google search. Looks like Uresti is a life member of the PGA of America due to his 20 years as an A-3. Life members do not need to be actively employed at a facility or engaged in the business to maintain their membership or privileges. It would appear that he was not required to go through the GPTP, as he entered as an A-3 and maintained that long enough to be a life member. 20 years as an A-3 is a long time, I would consider that more than equivalent to completing the GPTP, which was (likely still is) mostly remedial, useless and patronizing and exists entirely so PGA of America brass can wear suits a few times a year and tell everyone who is forced to listen how smart they are.
