Season pass in the Boston area

Hello,

 

Im looking for recommendations for a season pass for the Boston area/ south of Boston. A college student discount would be nice but willing to pay up to $1500 for the season.

 

any recommendations??

I would look into George Wright and Franklin Park. You should be able to join both for less than $1,500. I haven't played Franklin Park but George Wright is awesome. It can get crowded but I would still say it's worth it.

I get the M-F season pass at Leo J. Martin and Ponkapoag. One pass for both $650/Unlimited play without cart. While not the best courses in the area, they're goat-tracks, the price can't be beat.

 

Ponky has crappy tee boxes late in the season, but the terrain on Course 2 is great IMHO. Leo J is convenient for me as it is right up the street. I hit it every night on my way home from work. The back 9 at Leo J is more interesting but Holes 14 and15 are sparse with "grass" in the summer.

 

Haven't played Franklin Park or George Wright, but they are not easy for me to get to during the week.

 

Norwood CC has a $1200 season pass that is good at several other Sterling Management properties including Maynard CC, Rockland CC, and a few others. I use to play Norwood a lot, but it's your standard out and back hole layout, totally flat, and in my opinion boring. Generally good conditions all summer long.

You could also check out Presidents & Braintree Muni.....have only played Presidents and it's ok IMO..some cool elevation changes serves a good challenge. At either you're going to run into crowds at peak times. My advice would be to join and get into some "inner circle" or group that has access or "unspoken rights" to early morning weekend tee times.

 

The guys at George Wright are good guys and welcoming. Respect earns respect.

GW is a fantastic track and it plays to the longest of the munis near Boston at 6400 yards. It's Uber-accessible (if you're like me and moved downtown, forsaking your car) so it still ends up cheap-ish including the car fees.

Curious about the "inner circle" at GW and if anyone can feed me a lead? I live in Hyde Park and play most of my rounds at putterham primarily because it seems much easier to sign up as a single, as most of my golf friends have moved north and south of the city. I've played a bunch at George Wright, but even when I bought the season pass, I've had a tough time getting on before noon on summer weekends. I'm sure I just wasn't asking the right people in the past, but i'd be eternally grateful if I could start playing at the much closer and nicer golf course.

It's a shame what's happened to Leo J and Ponkie. Both have really nice layouts, Ponkie #2 is my favorite, maybe because I grew up playing on that one. But the state is incapable of running those course. No golf course within 20 miles of Ponkie will have any available tee times, but you could go walk on over there because of how badly they maintain it. They just finished rebuilding Pinkie #1 a couple years ago and it's already falling apart. Not to mention they forgot to build the ladies tee boxes when they rebuilt it. They really need to let a professional company take over the day to day operations.

Leo J. is a fond memory for me. I played most of my rounds there my first year. Oddly, I don’t feel that way about Newton Commonwealth, even though it was always in better shape.
