PING 2020...

Recommended Posts

Sorry, its hard to describe but the metal rods that go from the legs to the bottom of the bag are supossed to be attached to something. Mine are not so yes its just a defective or broken stand .

5MTLI0FL5V6N.jpegOld V new Ping L8 black one circa. 1996 I think. I also have a non stand version from 1989 and a green single strap with stand from 1993. I have numerous soft cover tops which were an optional extra. And they were not cheap considering it was the nineties. They all get a run out in summer. At the time it was between the L8 and the sun mountain front 9. But I just loved the Ping L8 and the endless colour options there were back then plus of course the Ping furry head covers in multiple colour combos for your ping zing woods.

Ahh memories.

got to see all the ping lneup at PGA superstore. Hoofer lite looks good in person, regular hoofer kind of ugly. The one thing I want on my next bag is an easy rangefinder pocket, I use the heck out of it during a round. The hoofer lite while looks good, the rangefinder pocket takes two hands to close with the zipper because not enough structure to zip closed with just one hand. The regular hoofer has a much better rangefinder pocket with the magnets but like I said, bag is ugly. I think the rangefinder pocket on last years hoofer lite model with the single zip straight across is more ergonomical, was messing around with that one and you can zip it closed and open easily with one hand.

The hoofer lite tour has that style rangefinder pocket so hopefully they release it

I know there have been a few CEL bags posted here, but they seem to be a bit of a unicorn. My local PGA store doesn't have any info, online pics are all stock and I'm dying to try one out.

Anybody know whats going on? I remember the original SM 2.5 was introduced at the 201? PGA Show, won some kind of award, but didn't release til after the following PGA Show! Is the CEL real? ha

I'm one of the only people that seems to have a CEL on here, but it's very real and I really like it. I love the looks of the light gray one I have and lower-profile branding from the other Ping bags, the functionality of it on whole, and the overall quality. Full disclosure though, I still haven't walked a round with it (it's been a hella rainy winter up in the PNW) but I'm pretty sure it's going to walk great. There is a bit of club tangle compared to my 10 year old Titleist bag, but nothing too bad. I'm surprised more people haven't ordered these actually...

Balance is great. Strap comfort was good although I did start to "notice" the straps by hole 17 or so. So not exactly discomfort by late in the round, but no longer a total non-factor. Club tangle I was paying attention too pretty carefully and had two instances of mild tangle all round. I should say though I play with 12 clubs, (mid-size grips).

Other comments.... storage is surprisingly good. It was upper 40's yesterday, chance of rain, so I started with 3 layers including a rain shell, by later in the round shed the rain shell and a hoodie and would've easily had room to stash my 3rd layer in the main compartment if I wanted. I don't carry a range finder so use that pocket for nicer balls and my tees, bigger ball compartment is for excess balls and glove. Engaging the stand was flawless every time. Finally I love the looks of the bag. It got comments from my buddies in that department as well.

Thanks. You think you noticed the straps because of the thinness or by that part of the round you would have noticed any bag straps? Any leg droop you noticed when carrying?

Good question. I'm paying a lot more attention to everything to do with the bag too which could be a reason. I think the thinness of the straps could be a part of it too. The bag is so light I think Ping could have spent another 0.5 lbs on beefier straps. But again, it was a long day out there and discomfort was minimal and only at hour 4+. Zero issues with leg droop. The legs and engagement of them have been flawless.

I got a new moonlite about a month ago. Haven’t used it yet because it’s very wet. The bag has a new 4 way top but no more structure below that. However it is a very good bag and clubs fit in well. I have 12 in mine but could do 14 no problem. Pockets are nice, one zippered water bottle holder, a range finder mesh pocket, large apparel pocket and mother small one on top of that. Waterproof under belly and 2 straps.

I I went into the Orlando PGA Tour Superstore to buy a craze-e-lite hoofer and saw the new L8. Loved it right away. Thought online it looked small but in person, it looked perfect for my 13 club set up! I am taking a cross country trip this month, my Vessel cart bag is too big in the trunk for travel and this will serve as a cart bag and when I walk I’ll pull a couple clubs out. As far as club tangle, I prefer it as when I walk or ride a cart as I cannot stand clattering clubs and as much as everyone here despises club tangle, I think it’s part of the Ping Bag deal. I count on the snug fit and lack of clubs grinding against each other.

the older ping l8 bags with the curved club sections 4 way, how do you get a club liner in there? Or what do you use for a sub?
