Top Golf League Strategy

I'm laughing typing this that I'm actually asking for strategy, but currently my friend and I sit at 5-4 in our Top Golf league and have lost some games to people I'd guess are double digit handicaps who bounce almost everything in. It's not a strategy for them, it's their talent level. It's not a dig on them because they're either giving us a run for our money or outright beating us. Meanwhile we're flying everything to the targets and taking too many 0's on swings where we miss left or right.

Has anyone played in these leagues? Is it actually good strategy to hit runners into the target?

I played in it a couple of years ago and my partner and I won the league. I got bored with it and it was becoming more of a chore than fun, so I didn't play it anymore.

I can't remember all of the distances, but I found that playing to 100, 125, or 150 yards was best. Personally, I would play to 125 or 150 yards depending how I felt that day. Going to the back target is not worth it. Not enough points, the tees are too low and the ball doesn't fly far and moves offline too easily. The same with the target before that (I think it was 190 yards).

The best teams usually followed the same strategy as well...find one target from 100, 125 or 150 yards and keep hitting at it.

There are some other games I didn't like. Such as the one game where you had to hit certain parts of the circle. That to me came down mostly to luck.

Bouncing them in is fine. That's why I recommend a shot from 100, 125 or 150 yards as the target. You don't have to fly them in and it's very easy to either fly them in or bounce them in. Also take note of certain distances the club is hitting the ball. From 150 yards I normally hit a 9-iron in real golf. In Top Golf I would hit an 8-iron. It may bounce in, but the the carry and bounce may make it where I hit closer to the center of the target each time versus flying it in with a 7-iron and hitting the edge of the target and getting less points.

I'm with you on the "TopPressure" game. We spent wasted shots on sections of that target that we thought was "Space 2" and it ended up being "Space 3", etc trying to figure it out. Yes it definitely seems that the closer targets is move, but hearing someone else say it validates it for me. The 175yd target, back of wall, etc seems like they're not rewarded as much as they should.

This is where we're getting killed by people who are bouncing them in. They're hitting center targets sometimes depending on how it bounces in. It seems keeping it low to the ground and online is superior to being hole high and missing left/right.

I am with Rich on this one. Pick one target and hit at it all time. For me it depended what stall we were at. I looked at what target were inline with each other. Meaning if the I could hit at a target and if I hit short or long I would still go into another target that is what I would pick for the night. Also I think hitting lower ball flight at target is big help as it will keep the ball out of the wind.

The lower ball flight seems to be the winning play at ours. We lost a game to two moms who bounced every single shot in to the 100yd & 125yd targets. They didn't have enough speed to hit it far enough offline and they played enough golf that that made consistent contact so it was rare that they didn't pick up points on every swing. Meanwhile we're hitting to longer targets, flying everything and missing left/right and had too many 0's to compete. I think you get larger points totals when you hit a target back to back as well which was helping them destroy us.

This is giving me a good laugh! Played in an indoor golf league a few years - my 9 hole indoor handicap was twice my 18 hole USGA index, lol. Some took it super serious though.

Sounds like fun, but maybe just forget the strategy, have an extra beverage and declare the next night let it hang out night. If Richie was keeping strokes gained at this we need to chip in and find him a date!

Believe me I was laughing typing out the initial post. We've also laughed at how bad we are at it. Funny moment, when we were playing the two moms we were getting killed in the first game and the first half of the second game. The 2nd game had you starting at the 100yd target and you hit 3 or 5 shots at each target going all the way back to one at 195yds. I told my friend that once they go out to the 150yd target they'd be done since it'd be tough for them to hit it that far. They get to the 150yd target, pull out 3 woods and start peppering it. I almost spit my beer out, looked at him and said, "we're fucked!"
