Tourstriker Planemate

Recommended Posts

yep, that certainly looks more like the protocol they demo in their videos. Only suggestion I have is concerning practice - best not to strap on the planemate and just hit balls - change things up - make 3 swings without a ball with planemate, hit 3 balls with it on - then hit 3 without it - go over and carpet putt or do something for a few minutes - come back and hit 3 without planemate then 3 with it. Can also vary speed. The idea is to space out reps (hitting more than 5 balls basically is exercise) - and to add variability and finally challenge. Here's a video on the method.

I don't have one but can see the benefits. Its a training aid not sure why guys are bashing it. For them what do all, end all aid do they know of that would help them in developing a sound swing?

Seems to me we golfers like to rotate the forearm quickly in the swing, but it makes us off plane and moving everything closer to the ball at the top. This thing helps keep the club on plane and moving in the right direction, a plus for guys that have never felt it before. Then they just have to figure out how to keep it inline down to the ball.

I've read several pages of this thread, but definitely not all, so hopefully this hasn't been covered to death BUT:

For those of you who've been using the product since it's release - has anyone posted a long term review?

Does the Planemate promote a specific ball flight? Are you able to hit both cuts and draws without changing the orientation of the shaft clamp?

Has anyone developed bad habits while using the TSPM?

For those of you who purchased and subsequently resold or cast to the side - why?

Thanks!

I'm sure i'll catch from this, like in previous posts but I will give my opinion.

I fluctuate between a +0.5-1 and I bought it and sold it pretty quickly. It caused me to become very laid off which led to a multitude of other issues. I worked with it in the mirror just in case others try to chime in and say I wasn't diligent enough. It's great for the take away, but I'm not a huge fan after that.

I appreciate the comment. I love training aids (though many are used briefly before being discarded), but expect that I'll likely do the same. That said, I'm looking forward to giving this one a shot. Best ever has to be the Impact Snap. Real eye opener for folks who don't know what it's like NOT to flip.

As an early adopter, I would say before you start the beginner protocols, just watch the advanced protocols first (not trying or doing any of those drills). They really are a great explanation of the golf swing as a whole and give you more context/information of the intent of the device. I think understanding how/why it works is makes each of the drills more productive.

Great tip. I actually watched all the videos today before ordering. I also did several of them unassisted downstairs on my Skytrak. Part of me feels like doing the protocols without the device would have almost as much impact - but also see how the physical feedback will be valuable.

I have been using it since October and it has helped immensely, but not without some new issues. For me the main issue is that my backswing can get much shorter trying to stand it up in the back like an umbrella. With this move I have developed an almost 3/4 swing as my full swing which can cost me some power when I have a day I can't feel my turn going back and can almost become a half fake swing. I also do have a more heel side miss now where my main miss had always been toe side. This is fine with the irons, but it has created some issues with driver since I still present a slightly open face with my miss. The backswing is an actual issue, the heel side miss is a new fitting issue as a result of improvements. In my fitting, with the proper lie angle (I am much flatter now), I largely live out of the center of the clubface.

Overall though, my swing is much better in terms of consistency and quality of strike. I still have a ways to go in terms of where I would like my swing to be, but this has been the best stretch of golf I have ever played.

That makes sense. I actually have a well ingrained, similar issue from hitting so many balls in my garage where the ceiling is only 8ish feet. :/

so good. Everyone read this. So many of us are hit focused and “what’s the proper path and face to hit a draw” focused when it’s all about repeatability and setup adjustments- same swing, different setup.

planemate has completely changed my clubface control. My dispersion is dramatically improved, especially with long irons that are so dependent on face angle delivery.

Buy one now if you want new and immediate 9-3 improvements. don’t buy if you don’t have patience and are expecting full swing improvement while strapped into the PM within a week.

I have followed along since October, and just purchased today. Last year, I grinded on the range and course to finally score my personal best. I still struggle with proper pivot, and getting too "armsy" at times.

Just watched some protocols, and I liked the instruction. Just using a wedge to practice, and I felt a few "feels" that clicked with when I am grooving my swing. I am not saying this will turn me into a par golfer, but I am looking forward to using as an aid to improve my swing thoughts and overall enjoyment in golf.

An additional bit of insight on the "ghost hands" you get using the PlaneMate, they will work great for some of you but for many of you they will just mess you up. Just keep swinging till that feeling dies down even the slightest bit and you'll be fine. I almost never go right onto the course without working the ghost hands out of my swing.

No, my miss was typically an open face right (which is my normal miss). I can’t recall ever hitting pulls with it even by accident.

I've been working on shallowing and really "motorcycling" (in Tyler Ferrel terminology). What I've found is that the more you shallow, the more difficult it is to pull shots left. If you watch the TXG video on the TSPM, the other guy (not Ian) mentions a lightbulb moment when he realized that your hands can be pulling left while the clubhead is still moving out to the right (for a righty).

To me, this feels like a combination of:

Trying to hit a massive banana slice by pulling hard right

Shallowing at the top via ulnar deviation and left wrist flexion (motorcycling)

Focusing on trapping the top, inside, back quarter of the ball

Maybe a confusing way to think about it, but when I do it right, it adds 10 - 15 yards to my 3/4 iron shots and yields a consistent draw.

I just completed protocol 5 and then took it to the range for the first time. First 6 or 7 shots with the band attached were either hosel rockets or dead left (I’m a lefty). I started to be more mindful of what I was trying to accomplish, and then had some pretty decent strikes. I had a 52 attached. I took it off and began hitting shots with my 9 iron and was striking really flush on a string with a baby fade. When I focused on having more extension of my trail wrist in the follow through, it turned into a baby draw. The level of face control was eye opening and a sensation I hadn’t really felt before, and I’m usually a pretty good iron player. Really excited to see how things turn out as I keep progressing.

For me this was the best part, I felt like I could swing as hard low and left as I wanted with no danger of the ball excessively leaving the line left to right.

Just ridiculous being able to do this with driver.

So I've been working through the protocol this week. I've been trying to not hit balls without it being concerned old habits will creep back in. However, I did take it off a few times to hit balls. There is this very strange sensation that there is still resistance on my golf club. I mean I literally can feel the club being moved without any conscious control. It's actually a very freaky feeling as if there's an outside force pulling on my club. I'm in a neuroscience related field so not surprising but it's still very strange to feel it. Anyone else experience that?
