Q39 is darn good, but it is a little nicer and hipster than I prefer my BBQ joints :D

some thoughts on Q.....

1) Joe's has the best pork ribs and best beans

2) Arthur Bryants has the best pulled pork

3) Jack Stack's crown rib, beef burnt ends, and sides are the best

4) Gates has the best sauce

i haven't lived in KC for a few years, so places like Q39, Woodhouse or whatever, and some of the newer ones are unfamiliar to me.

if you're mega hungry, just go to Jack Stack and get the Jack's best platter with a boulevard double wide IPA for the table. you'll sleep well.

I think Joes has awesome burnt ends, but they are only available 2 days a week.

Beans are very subjective. Joes are more savory while others are sweeter.

I had some Joes brisket the other day and it was solid.

The crown rib at Jack Stack IS amazing.

Go to Joes for lunch on Thursdays and get the smoked Rueben. Totally mouth watering. Delicious.

Dang, makes me want to hop into my car and drive couple hours north today for Jack Stack's burnt ends. I really like their beef and pork burnt ends. I'll have to try crown ribs next time.

I know I'm late to this party, Tiffany Greens and Shoal Creek would be good places to play on KC's north side.

Back to Minny earlier in week. 36 at both Staley Farms and Nicklaus Course. Cannot say enough good things about the staff at both. Staley Farms pro greeted us and was awesome. Course was tough greens were very tough but course in excellent shape. Nicklaus course was great too. Reminded me of Bearpath in Minnesota and the kid at the counter was very helpful. Both courses were fun and fair tests and the staff were outstanding!! 37 degrees Wed and 20 mph winds we did not play. Ate at the Q two nights was wonderful. A great trip the people in Kansas City and surrounding are great! Thanks to both courses!

It always is windy at Lionsgate! I live near Milburn CC and it always looks like perfect conditions tucked back in the tall trees. I'll drive down to Lionsgate and it's pumping a constant 20. It has made me a much better wind-player.

if you didn't get on Shoal Creek, it is a must, best public track next to Swope in the area, IMO.

Awesome thread. I am heading to Leavenworth, KS this weekend for a 3 week Army school. I am now gonna have to make the trek into KC to play some golf and grab some BBQ. I went to Q39 the last time I was in the area. It was good, but I want a better atmosphere. Too high class and hipster for me. I am gonna have to try a few of the recommended joints.

It's not a very far trek to a couple of fantastic courses. Falcon Lakes and Dub's Dread are within 5 mins of each other and about 15-20 mins from Leavenworth. Definitely go to the Joe's KC BBQ gas station location if Q39 was too high class :)

> Prairie Highlands is down in the south part of the KC Metro. Played last summer a couple of times with my dad and it was a great find, definitely worth driving an extra 15 minutes. Also if you're not from the area you should really be going to Joe's KC BBQ after your rounds.

There's another KC thread in the Great Plains forum and people are NOT a fan of Prairie Highlands with the conditioning issues. Namely...lack of actual sand on a course with A LOT of sand traps. I'm one of those people that agree with this one. I played there a few times last year and it was bad. Can't recommend it any longer and it's too bad because it's a great layout.

So this is a post that I can actually contribute too! Born and raised in KC and I've eaten WAY more than my fair share of BBQ. Actually just had some BBQ for lunch.

**Best KC Public Golf Courses:**

1. Minor Park - derivable Par 5s and questionable tee boxes

2. Smiley's - Has a putt putt course that you can have a go on after you play 18

3. Overland Park Muni - Known for its 6 hour rounds

**In all seriousness, Best KC Public Golf Course**

Shoal Creek

Creekmor

Tiffany greens

Swope

**Best Private KC Course**

Shadow Glenn - Great scenery and tough from the tips

Hallbrook - tough course, members complained and made it easier

Loch Llyod - used to host Senior Tour tourney and doesn't get a ton of attention being south of KC

Nicklaus Club at Lionsgate - links style, windy, former Web.com host

Mission Hills - Classic old KC course

KC Country Club - Classic old KC course

Blue Hills - Tom Watson used to host charity events, tight fairways, always in good condition, never busy

**Wanting a BBQ Experience**

1. Arthur Bryant's - Many of the presidents have visited. Pro tip, get a sandwich and frys to go. They wrap sandwich and fries together in butcher paper and slap on some sauce with a paint brush roll it up and your good to go

2. OK Joes downtown location - Its located in a gas station. Nuff said.

3. Gates - The ladies taking order will yell "Hi may I help you" right as you walk in the front door. Pro tip, don't piss these ladies off or screw up their ordering process. I suggest going with the Beef on bun with fries and a strawberry Fanta drink to wash it down.

4. LCs - Its in the hood and close to Swope Park GC. However, area can be somewhat shady after sundown

**Some KC BBQ Favorites****

1. Burnt Ends - get them anywhere they are great!

2. Best sauces - Joes KC, Gates

3. Best sides - Jack Stack. Beans, cheesey corn, onion rings, coleslaw are all the best!

4. Best hole in the wall - LCs, Jones Sister's BBQ (was a food truck converted into a BBQ shack)

5. Best Fine Dinning BBQ - Jacks Stack. Crown prime rib is on point and has a nice atmosphere

6. Best Ribs -Joes, Byrants, Jack Stack are all good

7. Best Restaurant Slogan - Danny Edwards "Eat it and Beat It"

8. Best BBQ Sandwich - Joes KC with the Zman sandwich

9. Underrated - Burnt Ends restaurant. Never a wait in line and can get in and out in a hurry

10. Place that a lot of Eaters think is awesome but I disagree - Q39 (just one persons opinion)

Lot of good suggestions here for out of towners (or anyone looking for new courses or bbq joints). I will add 2 thoughts... I think Char bar is an excellent bbq option, has a sauce that's incredible if you like a little bit of hotness, plus it's right in westport if you're looking to go out for drinks afterwards. As far as courses, you guys touched on all the good ones, so I'll just add Grand Summit is a pretty tough and fun track from the tips. Not always in the best of shape but priced fairly, plus lots of practice options.
