Omaha to North Platte trip

Looking for suggestions on hidden gems between Omaha and North Platte. Planning to play Quarry Oaks, Awarii Dunes, and Wild Horse. I know there are some good ones in Omaha but I am really looking for the hidden gems that might normally be out of the way. Doesn't have to be a full 18, willing to play 9 as well. Thanks in advance.

Centura Hills in Cairo, NE is a hidden gem. Indian Creek, also a public course, in Elkhorn, NE is where they play the Korn Ferry Tour- Pinnacle Bank Championship.

If you drive just a little further west, I would recommend Bayside just north of Ogallala. VERY Different, HILLY, HILLY, HILLY.... hold on to your seatbelt in your golf cart on a few holes. A totally memorable experience.

Iron Horse in Ashland is fun also. Built around an old quarry. Across I80 from Quarry Oaks. Lincoln has good city courses. Highlands is a links style near I80 and the Lincoln Airport.

Not sure if the trip has already happened, but it sure is cold out there right now...with that said:

 

Public Courses (hidden gems):

Omaha: Indian Creek, Bent Tree (in Council Bluffs)

Between Omaha and Lincoln: Iron Horse, Quarry Oaks, Woodland Hills

Lincoln: Highlands, Wilderness Ridge

West of Lincoln: Awarii Dunes, Wildhorse, Bayside, Quail Run

Way North (but worth it): Prairie Club

 

Private Clubs (if you can be hosted by a member):

Omaha/Lincoln: Omaha Country Club, Oak Hills CC, Firethorn CC

West of Lincoln (bucket list opportunity): Sand Hills, Dismal River

If you contact Dismal River directly, and stay on the property, they will probably let you play. I was able to do that last year. However, it is WAY off the highway!!! On a narrow road. They even send instructions on navigating the road into the club, including what to do when you see agricultural equipment coming your way!!

Any tips from your trip?   Like where to stay around North Platte or the courses?  I am headed to play Bayside, Wildhorse and Awarii Dunes this weekend.

Steve - Your message was posted a couple weeks back, wondering how your trip went...sorry I missed it and didn't provide my recommendations....

 

To answer your questions...Wildhorse does have some lodging on site...otherwise you can find a hotel/motel in Gothenburg, NE which is right near Wildhorse...

 

North Platte is not one of my favorite towns...nothing wrong with it, I've stayed there when traveling the night before to get to the Sand Hills, just not my favorite place...would prefer to stay in a hotel/motel at Ogallala (Bayside) or Kearney, NE (Awarii Dunes).

Lets be honest, there is nothing in North Platte.  I love small towns but as far as small towns go it has the least to offer.  Limited food options and rusty go-carts about it.  There is a GolfUSA so that is a plus for reloading after a long day in the native grass.
