Hey GolfWRX Members,

 

I just joined WRX so I hope I am not breaking any rules by posting.

 

I've been following National Custom on Instagram for awhile now. I love the beauty of the irons/wedges. I've been playing 718 AP2 irons for the last two seasons. I am posting a few pictures of the options I have. I really want the blade option. National Custom says they can match the offset, lofts, etc. However, I am a little nervous to go with the full blade. Ari says the COG on this iron is lower in the longer irons and progressively gets higher. I was sold on National Custom from speaking with Ari about me being a picker and using AP2's. Ari says the AP2's have too much bounce and that's why I am not taking a divot.

The only turn off I see with National Custom is that I have to order the shafts and grips. They do not build. I just moved to Virginia from Oregon and don't know of ANY people who build or golf shops that build.

I want to know from you the below.

Is there going to be that much forgiveness between this MB and the CB.

What has your experience been with National Custom.

What do you guys think I should do? stick with the MB or get the CB.

Is National Custom worth the price?

Can you recommend any club builders in my area?

Welcome to WRX.

I do not have any experience with National Custom but I do know that Ari knows his stuff and wouldn't steer you wrong. I would ask him about which model. Sounds like you have shared info with him, what does he say? Is it possible to get a combo set with cavities in the 4,5,6 and blades in the 7-P?

As for the question about them being worth it, that's entirely up to you. I don't know how much an iron is but I imagine they are not inexpensive. Which is another reason to make sure you get as much information as you can and make a well educated decision. You don't want to make a mistake or second guess yourself purchasing a true custom set like this

Definitely can recommend The Peoples Clubs for building. Will is awesome to work with and can get you pretty much anything.

As for the iron heads I don't see an issue going with the blades. The CB model you mentioned is not very techy and not a lot more forgiving than the blades. That's why Mizuno for example stopped offering the split cavities in their MP20 range.

My irons from National Custom Works took 10 months after getting a 10-12 week initial quote. The excuses were pretty lame.

After having some issues with The People’s Clubs I will never be using them ever again.

As we discussed those blades have a nice low COG especially in the longer irons and launch the ball nice and high. We have many clients with a higher handicap than yours playing with a set of blades.

We typically do not quote lead times especially for iron projects. Lead time depends entirely on how long it takes our craftsmen to run through their que. Each club is made entirely by hand so they do take some time and we only have 2 guys that make clubs so we can only make so many so fast.

We have only had great experiences working with Will Peoples and I've only heard great things from our clients that have used his services. He is at the top of the list of people we recommend.
