Miura Craftsman World - Iron order CB-1008 vs TC-101

Looking at getting a set of MCW irons, do I go cb-1008 or the newly released tc-101?

They are both amazing irons. I have both, and I think the TC-201s (which I think are the same as the TC-101s) generally launch a bit lower for me, feel is similar with maybe a small edge going to the 1008. The 1008 is also discontinued (maybe in Japan soon as well), fwiw.

I got the 1008's from MCW and they came out great. Great to work with through Tourspec.

Just ordered TC-101 through a shop in Japan, One2One. Got the 4,5,6,7 iron to go along with my CB-1008's that I've had for three seasons. Customized the sole grind, thinner top line, and nickel chrome satin with copper underlay. Should have them in 4-6 weeks.

Looking to do the same, combo with TBZero. Did you customize head weight at all?

I did not ask for specific head weight. Wanted swingweight to be D2 with shimada tour shafts. Going to keep the 8,9, W in the CB-1008's with same shaft and customization. Thought real hard about getting the Miura Giken S01 tour wedges too. But I have the Miura Global tour wedges with only one season of use on them.

1008 smaller than the 101?

I went on a few Japanese golf shop websites to investigate that exact question. The photos of side by side irons shots, makes them look identical. The only difference I could see was the transition from hosel to top line appeared to be a touch straighter on the TC-101's. I couldn't see a difference in club head size. The customization from Miura allows you to choose a smaller profile if you want to go that route.

Thanks, I think I'll do the same. Was trying to figure it out in case I re-shaft them, but their standard head weights are heavy enough. Do you already have the Shimada Tour? I was going to get the Shimada 115s, I read the Tours play stiff to flex. I play Oban CT-115 in most of my irons.

Playing shimada tour now. Thought about going 115's in the 4 & 5 iron for easier launch, but the tours launch just fine. I don't think they play stiff to flex. I played modus tour 125 in Bridgestone cb 40's for a few seasons and the shimada tours play similar.

Thanks, I had the same thought, I'll take any additional height I can get. Which sole grind did you go with? I am probably going double cut sole on the TC101 4-7 and leading edge on TBZero 8-PW. Also going Copper underlay with a touch of onset and thinner topline on the TC101.

I've order MCW through one2one.jp before and they were great to work with. My MB5003s have the copper underlay, smaller sized head, and double cut grind. Love how we can customize already awesome irons!

They've been great over e-mail. Do you like the double cut on the MBs? I feel like the sole is already pretty thin. I was going to do leading edge on MB and double on cavity to get them closer to one another.

The grind is pretty subtle and don't think it narrows it that much. I tend to be a picker so it's perfect for me.

Thanks, funny enough, I an a digger and I like the thin sole because I think it gets through the turf better.

I went with the double cut sole too. On my cb-1008's the trailing edge grind is subtle but does give the sole a thinner appearance. The guys at one2one have been great all the way through the ordering process, and the builds were right on spec. I also went with the maximum amount of onset.

@kizdoc, do you have a picture of the double grind on the 5003? Appreciate it if you do. Deciding if should go leading edge or double grind on the TBZero.

How does the smaller sized head grind look? I would love a square toe set of Miruras, but it's hard to find examples of what the MCW grinds actually look like. They have an option called "square" but the example pic looks almost identical or if anything more round.

Unfortunately, I've never seen a regular sized 5003, so I'm not sure what the difference is in person. The diagrams on the website make it look like the change is small, perhaps several mm. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

ANyone has tried the Miura GIKEN M01 wedges which were designed to complement the CB-2008. I just got the TC-201 and hesitates in taking the M01s or go with the new Tour Milled wedged or their HB version, it just seems the soles are pretty wide so kinda scared it will dig but apparently the high bounce is for that! any thoughts?!

If you’re a mint ball striker they’ll look great. If you aren’t, people are going to know about it 😂
