Arccos Completely Messed up

Recommended Posts

I need to do a bit more experimenting but had a mixed round with the watch over the weekend at Torrey South.

Had no issues with shot detecting using the watch but my watch battery (started off at like 95% when I teed off) got killed off after about 10 or 11 holes (didn't notice exactly when it happened). I have a Series 4 Apple Watch with Cellular so I think it may have been killed by the cellular being on since the cell reception out at Torrey did seem spotty on my phone as well. Hopefully if I just turn cellular off in the future I can avoid that issue.

Is anyone else having power issues with the watch function and/or have any tips for longer watch battery performance?

I play early in the day and watch is fully charged in the morning (so say around 96%+ when I start a round) but my watch is totally dying within 2-3 hours (say around the 12th hole or so).

I have an Apple Watch Series 4 with cellular but I've been turning the cell data off and I just keep my phone sitting in my cart while I'm playing (so my watch is moving in and out of bluetooth range from it at times). Anything else in functions that I should be changing to get better battery performance?

I have been having the same issues. Was told the watch doesn't work. Was also told that it uses the GPS on the phone anyway (which makes no sense for a 5th gen watch).

I quit using the watch and still same issues. Holes scrambled, and then on one course it the app simply quit after 12 holes. No battery issue with the phone, app simply quit.

I deleted the phone app and reinstalled. I also removed the app completely from the watch. I noticed that i got a message that the app quit the other day, even thought i did not turn on the watch app. Will try this one more time. If i still have issues, they are going on eBay.

Did you make any changes other than not using the watch app?

I really want this to work. I love the data that I have gotten, just based on the club distances alone.

But it needs to be seamless in that I don't want to be looking at the app or phone between shots or trying to fix scrambled holes, etc. I just want to download after the round and see how I did.

Even when it misses putts, I can get that from my GPS and I use it to keep score.

interesting thread, really want to try Arccos but maybe the technology is still one generation away from being seamless

There are some who never seem to have an issue. When I first started it would miss putts. But now it seems crazy.

This is interesting, It may be settings or the data for the particular course you are playing within the arccos database.

I have been using Arccos for the last 12 months and using the watch for the last 4 months, across multiple course and it actually improved using the watch, gone from 1 or 2 missed shots primarily putts to having none.

The only thing I would recommend is putting your phone and watch on "Do Not Disturb", which isn't a problem where I play as taking calls etc on the course unless for an emergency is banned

I lasted two rounds with Arccos before returning it. Two major issues for me. The phone battery drain / phone overheating on android makes it completely unusable. I have a fairly new Samsung Note 10 and followed all the tips and tricks and the battery just gets hammered even arriving with 100% and playing a 3.5 hour round it struggles and gets so warm.

Secondly the noise the tags emit goes right through me, so annoying if you want to warm up or practice with multiple clubs before a round or take the clubs to the range. Every time you pull a club they scream like dog whistles. I haven't seen any one else complain of this, so it might be my ears, but it's such a huge distraction.

The putting is also poor/patchy and requires lots of post round editing to get perfect distances to flags etc. Forget trying to use your phone to do it during the round. The tags didn't fit great on golf pride microsuede either, lost one but fortunately showed up in the bottom of my bag. The tags are quite bulky so feel unstable to me in the grips, I was constantly tightening them half a turn. I had the OG Game Golf years ago and that was better system despite the tagging in my opinion.

The system is massively flawed in my opinion, especially for android users.

Going to try a shot scope V3...fingers crossed.

With Game Golf having recent issues with their server being up and down and continued rumors about their eventual demise (I have the OG Classic version), I started looking at alternatives. I got a set of Golf Pad Tags that, like Game Golf, use NFC. They required that the phone be carried in the pocket and be tapped to register the club. I found that process unreliable and so frustrating I returned them. I seriously considered Arccos even with the cost of the tags and eventual yearly subscription cost. However, they went from replaceable to irreplaceable batteries that supposedly have a 5 year life, guaranteed for 2. That seemed reasonable until I discovered that the 5 year life is based on 50 rounds per year. I'm retired and play that many rounds in less than a year and a half. To take advantage of the guarantee and get a replacement you have to return the old sensor. Since I doubt that they would all die at the same time I would be without one or more sensors until the replacements arrived making the system basically unusable. I can't see ordering two sets of sensors to have spares.

So I just purchased Shot Scope V3. Some people are seeing early issues with this version but not everyone. They seem to be quickly addressing issues as they have just released a firmware update. Hoping this system works out for me.

I know it's too late but you can still buy the 2nd gen Arccos kit that doesn't require a subscription.

I did some research and they are 5 year batteries, guaranteed for two. I actually contacted them about this. That 5 year life is based on 50 rounds per year. I am retired and play that many in less than 1 1/2 years. The guarantee works, according to the response I got back, by sending back the depleted battery and then they send the replacement. That means while I'm waiting for the replacement I won't have a full complement of sensors.

That has not been my experience. They sent me a replacement for a (physically) broken sensor without needing the old one back. Took three days from start to finish.

Although conceptually a huge fan and hoping the link will address the challenges, here's a snapshot of the current dashboard. This will shock you but I'm really not a +10. I've spent hours with the Arccos support and dev teams trying to get the app to work properly with multiple phones, test versions of the app, diagnostic versions of the app and alas, it just hasn't worked.

It's the putting stats that Shot Scope seems to have nailed much better then Arccos. On my Arccos dashboard, it says I am a +4.3 putter. If you have ever played with me, you will know I am not a great putter by any stretch. I spend the appropriate amount of time post round editing my round on the same day I play, to ensure my memory is razor-sharp about pin placement, first putt yardages etc. My dashboard after 77 rounds lodged with Arccos:

It's definitely a good competitor. I only wish it had fitness tracking on the watch (I asked and they said they are working on it) and worked out a way to attach the putter sensor for SS grips. I like to wear my Apple watch and track my walking steps and distance.

If they get that worked out, I would strongly consider jumping ship. If they had it worked out at launch, I would have jumped. Now I'm going to see how the Arccos link works and works with the apple watch.

I was ready to pull the trigger on the link but may hold off and see if I can find a used one next season. I’m in MN so a late September delivery this season isn’t ideal. The phone in my pocket isn’t a deal breaker for me at this point either. Not sure where I’ll land.

Mine was doing pretty okay with the Apple Watch handling shot detection until recently. I rage quit the system a couple of weeks back and switched to Tag Heuer Golf GPS app, but just re-setup the sensors earlier this morning to give it one last chance - if it works with the phone in my pocket, I might consider getting the Link. If not, I’m sticking with the THG app

Question for you guys. Have you guys found a way to secure the sensor in place? A few of my clubs, that are used the most, the sensor unscrews over time. Tape, or other means?

Happened to me a couple of times. I kept a roll of electrician's tape in my bag for that reason. Quick and easy fix, and it only tears or comes off after another 8-10 rounds
