I finally got to test the Vokey SM8 wedges and had a full fitting at Titleist National Fitting Center in Thailand. I filmed the whole thing if anyone is interested the video is below! Still trying to wrap my head around the results of the fitting as it was way off what I expected but seems to be the best fit!

Post pictures of your wedges as you get them in please. I'm still trying to decide which finish to get. Generally go with black but not a huge fan of how they wear. Tour chrome seems to look a lot better than last years which I didn't like at all.

If SM7 are problematic in some way, Vokey had better tell JT and others on tour that still have SM7 wedges in the bag. What ever the supposed problem, true or not, some people don't care about truth in advertising, I am one. JT was making those SM7 wedges dance pretty dam* good yesterday.

Got answer from a dealer in UK...

The raw will be able to go through Titleist wedgeworks. They will be £179 and available mid-march.

I was just in my local Edwin Watts. I've been waiting for the SM8's to come out. They look great, but today I saw a bunch of basically brand new SM7's in grinds I want, as well as heavily discounted brand new SM7's. The SM8's look better, but I can get over that. The one thing holding me back from just buying the SM7's was the bit they said about the high right miss, which was essentially admitting it was inferior. Can't get it out of my head. Can anyone that has hit the SM7's and SM8's give an impression of what you felt the difference was, if anything?

It's marketing and it's working.

Physics shows SM7 lob wedges do not want to square as easily due to the location of the CG. If the club doesn't square at impact, then yes, a high right miss is the shot. This could happen with any club. The SM7 can also easily hit online shots like any other wedge and the SM8 could hit high right shots as well. I think tour pros have proven over the past few years that SM7 wedges are not flawed, it's just different and new tech they are offering.

Will you notice a big difference??? If I was a betting man and had 2 identical wedges, and the only difference was the location of CG, I'd put my money on that that the average golfer wouldn't know which is what? Ya maybe a tour pro could see a difference, but they also go through 5 or 6 wedges a year and are hitting countless shots with them and have such a high level of feel, and a high level of consistency in terms of ball striking.

You are buying off the rack standard wedges. I'd bet you would see a bigger improvement if you were to get custom fit for wedges over any marginal improvement noticed from SM7 to SM8.

That’s the great thing about raw. Get tired of the rust, take some CLR to them and the rust is gone. Basically the only finish that doesn’t wear

Yeah it's just a lot of money to spend on wedges never having bought raw before so don't know how to take care of them. Not a fan of rust but love the look when they are relatively new. I get why tour pros like them but they swap out their wedges several times in one year whereas I'm buying wedges to last for 2 years. Probably going to buy jet black again or maybe even tour chrome since the finish looks much better this year. I'm not worried about glare since the rest of my T100's will look the same. Don't get that with tour players either playing a set of blades that are shiny and have the same glare and those are ok but they can't have wedges that glare.

You can use CLR on the jet black and then you have a raw wedge. My buddy did it to his and they look awesome.

Does anyone know if the section marked "VOKEY DESIGN" on the back of the wedge is raw? I remember seeing a tour pro's SM8 where this section was rusted and it looked great.

Sounds like the marketing of sm7 being flawed is working with some folks. Sm7 are great wedges. Sm8 will be great wedges. This marketing tactic is a bit shameful, imo.
