Brooks sounding off again

I wouldn't consider myself old, I'm 32, nor would I say I'm stuffy. I think the criticism towards Brooks is that he constantly talks about what is wrong with atmosphere of the game, etc. but what exactly is he doing to change the game or make it better. Old stuffy men who are members of country clubs are never going to be the ones to change the game or even capable of doing so. And they don't have to, they enjoy the clubs they play at so why should they??

For someone who doesn't hold back on his negative comments about how the game, maybe he should use his "stature in the game" to make a positive effect and do something about it instead of doing talk shows with his hat on backwards.

"instead of doing talk shows with his hat on backwards." This is the real issue you people have, you don't like that fact that someone who is an "outsider" so to speak in terms of off course persona has an opinion that may be right. I am failing to see how what entertainment shows or how a dude wears his hat has any effect on the validity of his opinions.

@tipuga93 might want to consult Dave Chapelle for what happens when “ keeping it real “. It’s not always the best idea.

Anecdotal. I have been playing for 15 years(26 now) and have encountered the exact scenario BK is describing a handful of times. Do I think it is a huge problem? No. But I don't think that BK is a douche for saying what he said. If Daniel Berger or Charles Howell III makes these comments no one gives a damn but BK says it and all of sudden here comes the big bully with another mean comment.

Brooks is a great golfer and one of my favorite watches. I am not such a fan of his attitude. It screams very unauthentic and forced. The its fashion bro thing I don't understand. To the point of being WWE cameo fake.

Koepka should speak more positively about good things going on in game to help it grow and maybe even learn to contribute more to First Tee, AJGA, other junior programs, etc...like Patrick Reed as an example.?

I cant believe people are going after Brooks for this. Patrick Reed is a cheater and everybody seems to be defending him. Instead of watching Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens go into the Hall of Fame this year, I have to go watch Ted Simmons. What about Pete Rose. This should be an outrage against Reed but instead it seems to be an outrage against Brooks. Wow.

I think sir quig is correct. Idk the Stat but I bet 90% or more of golfers do not belong to private clubs. The ones who do... They do it because they want to get away from that muni vibe, which is basically a free for all, depending where you go. They want to feel wealthy and above others probably too. I have had lessons at a club where the yearly is $40k. Porsche, Bimmers, mercs all over the parking lot. I felt like crap rolling up in my 2011 mazda. I wouldn't even go near the vallet.

BK prob wants to roll up to his private in shorts and a tank but isn't being allowed to. This is a total non issue for almost all of us. The biggest rule outside of normal expected human behavior that I've seen is muni courses don't want you wearing denim jeans. Basically anything else goes as far as I've seen. I think BK is out of touch on this one.

Cause those guys don't make the comments that Brooks makes, that is why. I pulled a recent article on Howell, and this is a direct quote.

“My son now is big into golf and he loves it, so like he has his favorites and the guys that he really likes,” Howell said of his 8-year-old son, Chase. “Justin Thomas is his clear favorite. Not even close. Like watching last week (when Thomas won the Sentry Tournament of Champions), like me seeing golf through his eyes watching Justin in the playoff and rooting him on and all that kind of stuff, it's kind of reinvigorated my golf career a little bit.”

Who brings more negativity to the game, Koepka talking about what's wrong with the game, or Howell sharing his experience watching the game with his son?

Reed had his day. This is the fresh topic. Don't worry not many PR fans here. Mentioning Brooks is golf forum catnip. Everyone will come running.

I appreciate that BK wants to make golf more fun and accessible. But....

Brooks is an outsider? He grew up in palm beach. He went to private school. Per the article,  "It (Medalist Golf Club) was one of the first country clubs that gave him some playing privileges as a junior. "

His name is "Brooks".

Just because he decided to wear his hat backwards and "it's fashion, bro" sneakers, does not make him an "outsider".

Now, here is an outsider who nuked the status quo in golf and beat the crap out of the establishment. And, here is the key,

He did it with his clubs, not his words ; )

I don't consider him an "outsider" in the sense that you're talking about, more so an "outsider" in the sense that he is near the top of the golf world and speaks his mind which is refreshing for me personally.

And I would say that BK has done a pretty good job of letting his clubs talk.

Sorry I can't keep up with all the replies here, I am not a new member but have mainly lurked for 10 years and now I'm trying to get involved in some friendly banter a little more. Go BK ;)

Personal opinion on that is real vs fake. Real can be flawed as long as it stays real. Fake however must keep up the facade in order to not be outed. You can’t out Reed .... he’s all out in the open. In short. It’s better to be an asshole on the open. Than one in hiding.

Wow. Medalist. “ thug life “ right ? And no there’s no improper connotation there. Just a joke the kids will know. He’s painted this “ grass roots , had to make it through the challenge tour “ story. When in reality he was backpacking through Europe on Moms dime sampling the local delicacies..... I don’t want to hear about struggles if you had playing privileges at medalist as a junior. Vijay had struggles. Brooks had to decide when to come in from the range and put a sandwich on his tab. Huge canyon in between.
