How to get it back??

I'm an 8.5 index, not great at any aspect of the game, but decent at most things. Last fall I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in both shoulders and had to shut it down completely. After 4 months of not playing at all, I've learned to live with the OA and am ready to get back out. I played 3 weeks ago for the first time and carded a 76, which included two 3 putts, exceeded any expectations by quite a bit. Since then, reality has set in. 94,90, 89. I went and got our teaching pro to look at my swing last Friday and we recorded it as well. He suggested a few minor adjustments to my setup. Nothing looked way off. Has this happened to any of you and what did you do to get back to your old game?

You might find dead hangs from a pull-up bar helpful for your shoulders. An orthopedic surgeon stopped doing shoulder surgeries and started recommending dead hangs to his patients, instead. I came back to the game after a seven or eight year long break. I had been shooting in the 70s before I quit, and now, I'm lucky to break 90. I'm stronger than I was before and much more flexible, so I suspect not having the opportunity to practice as much is the main culprit.

Arthritis in knees and feet. Family, work and pain kept me off the course for abut 6 years. Had a 6 hcp when the hiatus began - when I returned it quickly jumped to a 15. Over past few years, I've learned my old swing doesn't work due to impact of aging, combined with less practice time to help limit pain issues. I have been working to make bad shots less bad and also tried to make swing a little less physically demanding. Added hybrids to replace long / mid irons. I've been able to get the hcp back down to a 12 with goal of getting to 10 - not sure I can get there but time will tell. Good luck with your journey.

GL OP on your health issues. Hope you can play as pain free and "FREE" as possible! that being said I have not experienced a physical health issue, but more of a "mental health" issue.

To summarize, 79, 98, 98, 88, 85. What happened. Well since golf has become non existent (played 1 once a week minimum for 7 years) No once a month at best. I figured the best thing to do is watch YouTube and learn about the swing. what ends up happening is each monthly outing, I take all the new things I learned from youtube and apply it... meaning EACH and every outing the swing is changed and different from the last months. Then when the scores go haywire...guess what? Change it again.

Zero consistency, zero confidences and zero @##% Given.... Score goes down the tube, attitude goes down the tube and golf is not fun.

The first thing is info overload. The next thing is gotta have some sort of consistency first before you can nail down the actual issue. Every change, changes something else. I gave up, went to the most natural swing I could apply. No focus on angles, lag, swing positions, just swung natural. Things then started to come back and consistency started to show at least.

Anyways I am sure I am preaching to the choir, but my thoughts are just you coming back from an off season due to injury you are trying to get back into it, but having to make some changes based on the injury and then making more changes to chase your prior score, causes the inconsistencies etc.
