I can understand this policy for golf stores where they move a large amount of merchandise but individual golf courses don't have that sort of volume. Particularly for $400-$500 jackets. How long has Kjus been in business?

Well, again, unless it’s changed in the last few months, that’s the case with KJUS. They want a commitment by an account to make it worth KJuS’s time. It’s actually not that uncommon for any company to do. Many do. It’s just the price point with KJUS that makes it an issue for a small shop. But, KJUS only wants their products in places that are moving it and have the means to fully represent the brand. And in high end, private clubs, this kind of buy in isn’t a huge deal. And that’s the type of account that KJUS (again, this is info from the last discussions I had with them) wants. Just like Mercedes isn’t putting a car dealership in a small, blue collar town.

My last jacket (Sunice Hurricane - goretex) served me well. Too bad I walked off and left it in a clubhouse and never saw it again. I’ve got a few pieces of hyperadapt now. It’s worked well in light rains but I had not been in long steady downpours since I’ve had it. I find that it can be on the hot side during warm weather months.

Bandon Dunes in August is I’m not certain if I will stick with what I have or pick up something new.

Been looking for KJUS dexter pants in their short length, but very hard to find. I want unlined rain gear due to the southern temps we enjoy. Don’t mind paying for alterations if I have to..also, wouldn’t mind colors other than just black, the grey was very cool fro Kjus, let’s you do some color combos that black does not

Anyone had any experience playing golf in a Columbia Titanium OutDry Jacket? From what I can tell it seems fairly waterproof, the only issue I can see is that it has a hood, hoping that doesn't feel unnatural when playing golf.

I’ve mentioned it before, but OutDry is great. It is GoreTex ShakeDry before Gore had it. No threat of the dreaded “wetting out”. It’s basically putting the waterproof membrane on the exterior of the garment, instead of adding a cloth face fabric to the outside. And I actually prefer waterproof gear with hoods, even for golf. Wish more golf specific companies would do them.

Just got a Galvin Green Archie for my birthday. Got it for a fair price here in Canada. Still, not cheap, but my previous rain jacket held up for many seasons and this one is just so much better in terms of quality. Unless I lose it or something, it should last a very long time.

I just ordered the ProQuip PX6 from a UK retailer. Their site said they ship to the USA, so it didn't look like it would be an issue. Let's see how this pans out... Their price was ALOT less than the USA price even with the current 25% off promo.

Has anyone on here ever used Glenmuir / Sunderland waterproofs and have any feedback?

If they're any good then they're a bargain for their price range - I know Galvins are widely accepted as the best but I cannot bring myself to spend that sort of money on a jacket and trousers..... Thanks for sharing. Haven’t heard of the brand but looks like good gear. Especially like the appearance of slim fit vs typical baggy fit of most rain gear. My only concern is it really waterproof? Or simply resistant.

For the price I may just take the plunge when I get paid and see what they're like, Glenmuir itself is quite a well known brand in the UK it's just Sunderland I'm not as familiar with

Sunderland is excellent. When I was at Pinehurst about 4 years ago one day it rained off and on. Most of the caddies were wearing Sunderland Gore-Tex gear. Those are the guys that know what works and what doesn't.

Sunderland is owned by Glenmuir now and previously was its own company, i believe. that could be wrong. but anyhow, i have no reason to believe they don't make good stuff anymore, but as the previous poster said, it used to be great stuff. not sure they use Gore anymore though.

I can report that the DryJoy Select works great. Got caught in a squall at Bandon and I stayed dry and comfortable. It is very light weight, so you have to layer with it. I was glad in the wind/rain that I wasn't wearing my 20-year old ZR gear...I would have caught flight with the baggy material from those days. I am now set for the next several years.

It seems like a few years ago it was easy to find short sleeve gore-tex or waterproofs that werent all black. But after getting my GG Argo stolen last summer, its impossible to find anything. Am I the only one that hates all black tops?

I bought a red Sunice 10k/10k from Sierra for $29 but am looking for something a little better.

Not many people are going to go out there in absolutely pouring rain to play a round a golf. Having a nice $400 Gortex jacket and $300 pants always come in handy and if you don't mind shelling that kind of money, then all the power to you. My buddy has a Galvin Green Gortex rain outfit that cost him around $800. I understand the lifetime guarantee of Goretex and yes, its a good selling point. I knew it would rain on a day I played so I went into my closet and dug out a 10 year old Nike Stormfit ensemble that I had and it held up extremely well in drizzle and occasional down pours.

But that's the whole point of this thread, you can buy top-notch rain gear without spunking $800. If someone wants to buy rack rate from their local proshop more power to them, choice is good. But a 1/4 of that can get you all you need, with the latest tech.
