Going back to s300 from project x 6.0

Now I’m back massively ahead of tome after surgery I’ve been trying out some different clubs with the intention of doing a combo set. Today I’ve tried irons with DG s300s in them and they felt like junior clubs in comparison to my PX 6.0s.

 

This has actually made me think that there’s more to iron shafts than I’d have believed. Out of the current crop of steel shafts what would people say plays comparably to the PX 6.0s? I don’t have a ready supply of clubs or somewhere to demo options so I may have to buy single clubs off eBay to get some demoing done.

KBS C Taper 120 is the closest to PX 6.0. Same weight, but the 6.0’s will frequency a tad stiffer. It’s player dependent on which one feels better for them.

Use the Titleist website select an iron set and look at their custom shaft link. Select the iron shafts and you can get info on almost all the standard shafts. You can even compare up to 4 shafts. It is very helpful.

That doesn’t answer OP’s question. He asked what other current steel shafts play and feel closest to PX 6.0, and that’s easily the c taper 120 stiff.

Thank you. That’s a real good starting point. With the s300s it literally felt like the shaft was in motion throughout the swing. Maybe I need something that feels boardy to feel in control?

 

i can see me ending up buying a set of irons with whatever shafts and swapping them out as this rate as the combo set will be built with 2nd hand clubs. I can’t justify buying new to only use 4-6 unless I can get individual irons e.g. G410s do interest me.

Big fan of PX Rifles. Fitting puts me in a 6.0 but I prefer 5.5.

C Taper is the best match. Same guy who designed the PX Rifle before the company was bought by True Temper. You would have to test to see which one as fhey are stout like PX Rifles. You might like the feel of the reg (110g) or reg plus (115g) as you cannot go by flex designations with these.

Also could look at the DG X100.

The Nippon Modus 125 stiff is another one I liked. Quite stiff.

To me the Modus 130 stiff has a similar feel and flight. Just 4 grams heavier.

This image is pinned elsewhere on the forums, but it's helpful for what you're asking. There are brands that aren't represented on this chart, but it still can serve as a good baseline.

Closest to flex would be DG X100 soft-stepped, KBS Tour S+, or KBS C-Taper Stiff hard-stepped.

C-Taper might be your best bet as it's a slightly higher balance point shaft, but also sits at the same 120g weight that PX6.0 does. S300 probably feels like a noodle for you because of how the bend profile meshes with your swing. So with that said, while X100 would match flex-wise, it still might not offer you the feel you're after.

Agree about KBS C-Taper but the actual flex equivalent in terms of FCM for PX 6.0 is the S+.
