SuperSpeed Golf training system

Recommended Posts

Obviously it is brand new so there is not much out there yet, but is anyone having success with the C trainer? I have seen a few posts on instagram with long drive guys reaching huge speeds with it but not much else. I am interested in ditching my regular sticks and just using the C stick because I know my hand speed is something that definitely could be improved. I have been only using the blue stick now for the past few months so the other two are just sitting around so it doesn't make too much sense to keep them.

I don't know about the purpose of the light stick, but the heavy stick for me is more about stretching for speed than creating actual speed. Basically, like any heavy club it gives you a better awareness of where the club is in your swing. I would imagine the only thing the light stick would be good for is to reset your speed after this stretching portion to prepare you for the actual speed work with the middle stick. At least, if I was to use it, that's how I would personally use it.

I did when I did the full protocols. I haven’t gotten injured since moving to middle stick only and using gloves for both hands.

I got some elbow tendinitis (in both elbows) so have taken a month off. Did it in the early morning without a proper warmup. Lesson learned.

I just bought the off brand ones from Detroit golf, the weighting is a little different light is 285 Grams medium is 325, heavy is 370. I am just going to add some lead tape to the lightest one to make it 10% lighter than my current driver and do the blue only protocol. Currently I average around 106-107 ss and my goal is to have a consistent 170 ball speed. Sounds like it is pretty feasible based on everything I have read here.

Anyone else tried the off brand ones from Detroit Golf on the Bay?

Up the reps to 5 at least per side versus the 3. I would add 5 reps of dominant side driver to start and finish.

I also recommend gloves for both hands if you're doing it 3 times a week, which is what I recommend for the biggest gains.

I think it might be difficult to set up control groups, lol.

The problem here is that we all tend to generalize from our own experience and outcomes. Guys who have used all three sticks and gained are very likely to believe that everybody will get the same results that they did, and are often NOT open to the possibility that they could have gained even more speed more quickly another way. Likewise, guys who have used speed training and have NOT gained are skeptical about the entire concept, and are often not open to the possibility that they could still benefit IF they addressed other issues, like hip mobility, first. And with us always are the guys who substitute the words "I don't need to..." for the truth, which is "I don't want to..."

But the data is the data. You can put golfers into several groups as to whether or not, and how much, they will benefit from speed training:

Guys with bad technique. They can do speed training all they want, and they'll see gains on the radar during the protocols, but it won't go to the course with them because the way they swing the club AT A BALL limits their ability to swing fast(er).Guys with good technique, but with flexibility and/or mobility issues. These guys, and I was one of them, won't really see great gains even during the protocols because they are already swinging the club as fast as their body will allow, given their limitations. These are the guys most likely to get injured as they try to ramp up speed when their body can't handle it. (Note; this has NOTHING to do with general fitness or strength or improper warmup or any of that stuff.)Guys who have good technique and good flexibility and good mobility; these are the guys who will see big benefits from speed training. But on this thread, a LOT of those guys mistake the gains they've made with three sticks with the question of whether three sticks and a million reps are the best way to go about speed training, and the data says that just isn't true. Btw, I have found a great use for the red stick! My wife just had a severe bout with vertigo, and the red stick has come in handy as a cane for her; grip in down, thumb on top of the weight and fingers wrapped around. Try it! :)

I have been having issues with energy levels the last two sessions but still managed to make some gains. I have been trying to dial in my diet for best performance and it's still a work in progress. I have also tried to work in some strength and conditioning to fix the weak links in the speed chain.

This past session I wasn't even topping my speeds from the last set of protocols and was supremely frustrated in being in a good place mentally, but experiencing a setback in speed. I took a 2-minute walk just and just thought about what I was trying to accomplish and running through my notes in my head about what I was or wasn't doing in my swing.

I used my anger and frustration and felt like I truly went all out for the first time and in doing so I set my new post protocol driver speed record with two swings of a 125 mph. I felt like the first time I used every ounce of my body right down to my toes to generate speed. It was fun.

A question for the guys that have had success with this type of training.

I know that sufficient recovery time is a key component of this type of training. Were you able to still see gains when playing on the same day, or the day after your speed training sessions? Did you need to be concerned about how you incorporated other types of fitness workouts (cardio, yoga, weights ,etc ...) with the speed training?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to work fit this type of training into my fitness regimen and golf schedule.

For me it was largely dependent on how I felt energy level wise.

I will say I wait a few hours between training and playing. Usually I do SuperSpeed right when I wake up and then anything I do golf wise during the week is in the afternoon. Even with that space between, if my energy feels low I usually won't see the same speeds I did in the morning. However, if I am feeling good I can usually get my speed back to where it was in the morning after about 10 warm up swings.

I usually play better a day or two days after a session in terms of reaching the speeds I want.

I started training and yoga recently, so I can't comment on those yet.

I have been doing the blue stick only and with my schedule ended up doing a session Saturday, a warm up with the blue Sunday before golfing, and another session Monday. My speeds Sunday and Monday were trending down. I think adequate rest between sessions is definitely crucial to seeing gains. I wouldn't do a full on session same day as golfing, maybe just a few warm up swings. Also have been doing heavy weight training sessions, so overall body fatigue could have also been an issue.

I have been doing this speed training off and on for a while, with some ok gains. However after reading some of the research on this, I've come to a realization the I might be one of those guys who has already maxed our SS due to mobility issues. I certainly fit the profile. Anyway, I started doing some mobility exercise recommended by TPI and I am already seeing gains on the golf course. I haven't done a SS workout since I started doing the mobility work, but I will be resuming shortly. It will be interesting to see if I can get some results with this approach.

I recommend doing superspeed before cardio/weight lifting. You want to hit your max speeds so you need to be fresh. As for exercising on golf days that needs to be trial and error. Golfing really shouldn’t prevent you from hitting max speeds after playing energy wise. Sometimes i do a 5 minute warmup with the sticks before playing as well
