Has anyone rolled the L.A.B BLad 1 or 2? Looking for input...

Hey all.

I've been seriously looking into purchasing the Blad 1. Basically, a simple blade with the lie angle balanced "tech". My main concern is that there doesnt seem to be many reviews over a long period of time. I'm also having trouble figuring out exactly how large it is.

I emailed the company directly and was told to email a different employee. He has never returned either of my emails.

Before I shell out $450...can anyone shed some light on these? Any experience you have had with then would be helpful.

LOL. I am interested as well, but I was dumb enough to just go ahead and order one! It is probably still a couple of weeks out but I will certainly post a review once I have had a chance to use it.

I wasn't aware that they still offered the bad.1. I ended up ordering the Blad.2 at 37" long and 76 degree up right, with a dot for the aim marking. He suggested I get it in SS vs the brass due to the length of my putter, since they could get the SS head lighter than the brass. I got a chance to roll the 2.1 putter (their fitting putter) but unfortunately they did not have a Blad putter there to try out so this is a total leap of faith on a system that I think has some legitimacy to it.

There is this thread but not many reviews in here. The CEO did a podcast with GolfWRX and mentioned the difference between the blade and mallet. You get the same torque free benefits in both from the lie angle balance. It's in a much more appealing shape but if you're not use to a true center shafted putter it can be unplesant to look at compared to the 2.1. The biggest difference is the lack of forgiveness in the blade vs the mallet, the mallet can be hit anywhere on the face and get the same roll/pace on the ball where on the blade off center hits you won't see the same results.

 

So if you don't hit center face often maybe mallet would be better but if yo strike center often then go blade on a performance stand point. For visual appeal yeah blade any day of the week, but I would rather sink putts which is why I'm probably going to get the mallet.

Matt. Ultimately the problem I have with mallet is that it is so dramatically different than any other putter. Its large...it has. a weird shape...and the placement of the shaft is not just center shaft...its centre shafted and like an inch back from the topline. It's very odd. I'm worried that without demoing it I will never really grow to like it.

I have both a mallet and a blade and feel more confident with the mallet only because its compact...and its shape is still appealing to me.

Although the mallet offers forgiveness...the blade looks so much better and looks to me like it is much easier to line up.

After reading the other thread on these putters I dug out my Edel Brick putter. It claims to be torque balanced as well. I’m not sure of the difference. I’ve been putting really well with it!

I think they said it's so different that it's not hard to adjust to and easier than people think. You still get the alignment like a traditional putter and would probably get use to it faster.

 

The blade not many people are use to the shaft going through the alignment of the putter which for some is more awkward than the striking iron that is the mallet.

 

Go to golf town, grab one of the SeeMore putters unfortunately they only carry right handed ones. But if the SeeMore isn't appealing the Blad definitely won't be either.

 

I could easily ignore the entire back half of the mallet just focusing on the alignment. The Blad it's all you see is the shaft.

I'm going to get fit for one at TXG when I go in for a fitting. If I do get one which I'm thinking of cause I'm going to unload a few putters to pay for it I'll bring it by your place.

There's a pretty long testing thread in the tour and pre-release equipment section you should check out, if you haven't. You can find Sam H. from LAB on that thread and PM him. I'm sure he'll get back to you.

I would suggest focusing more on the B.2 than the Blad.1. As for the size, (B.2) here's a pic next to a Scotty NP2 T22. I've been playing both the B.2 and 2.1, the B.2 won out for me. If you want more forgiveness, the 2.1 is hard to beat.

I actually quite like the shape...maybe not so much the double line alignment.

I don’t want to speak for LAB but based on conversations with Sam, there were some things they felt needed to be improved. They did that with the B.2.

I’ve never tried the 1, so take it for what it’s worth.

Tried the Blad 1 in a shop yesterday. It is a very solid well made clean looking putter. I wanted to like it but compared to my DF mallet,the Blade 1 was not as forgiving and harder to line up.

Very interesting... I currently game the NP2 and looking for greener pastures. Any preferences that you like/prefer more on the Scotty compared to the BLAD 2?

Other than looks, no. The overall weight might be something NP2 users notice but not an issue for me.

One reason I want to try these is because there is tech behind them. Not to spoil this thread but a scotty is no different than a $100 milled Cleveland putter in terms of tech. In fact...even Cleveland's debatablly have some tech in the face...scotties don't.

 

I guess my point is...if you are looking for something to help putting...whether it be alignment, higher MOI, face tech, or something a little more unique like the lie angle balancing, just ditch the NP2 because it doesn't provide any of the above.

Yup @5hort5tuff, that's exactly what I'm searching for. I am halfway decent putter (**allegedly**) but I'm definitely looking for an increase in MOI and the two alignment marks make it very intriguing for better alignment. I've been debating the B.2 or the Evnroll ER2 but I'm beginning that the lie angle balancing might be where this thing really shines. I might have to make the drive to an authorized dealer and give this putter a roll. I appreciate all your guys' inputs.

I heard from LAB today and I got the notice that my new putter ships tomorrow! It has been a long 3 weeks waiting for it since I placed the order. Looking forward to getting some practice in with it before getting some rounds in once it warms up.

This seems like a longshot, but I'd love to hear from someone who has experience with both the SeeMore Giant line and the LAB blades. It's hard for me to imagine how one would be better than the other. The Giant M1t that I have is as stable and forgiving as any massive mallet I've ever swung. I'm probably an idiot for choosing looks and feel (my Bettinardi) over performance, because the SeeMore is as point and shoot as it gets.

I putted great with a center shafted 2-ball that wasn’t right for my stroke at all. I just bought a Phantom X 5.5 or else I would take a shot in the dark on that big mallet. It definitely is intriguing.
