Yup. That shaft is gone. You will probably be able to use it temporarily, but it will continue to split and eventually break. Sorry. That sucks.

...or it might break, fly and hit someones head and then you have real worries....sometimes we have to accept a loss and move on, and this is such a case. Only a fool will try to fix it and play it, its just a matter of time before it breaks and make things even worse.

Was the contact towards the heel by chance?

I agree with the above comments though. That damage combined with that fact that you actually felt it happen = replace.

Yeah I wonder if Phil Swift has enough confidence in flex tape to stand behind the Op when he takes it back? IMHO stick a fork in that shaft it is done--- Further more Howard says it is shot and that is good enough for me even though from my experiences I knew it was shot

That profile you respond to seems new to Golf, and has no understanding of what 200 grams at 100 mph can do to a human body.....Here is one such case, but not of the really bad ones...https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2791647-kevin-stadler-breaks-club-accidentally-hits-fan-in-head-6-stitches-required

In the OPs case, WE KNOW it will happen, that shaft will break, but we dont know if anyone will get hurt or how bad they will get hurt.

If i came to a tee an saw a player grab a club that was taped, that club will break over my knee and the player sent off the course, i have ZERO tolerance for idiots on the Golf course

Yep Howard there is no excuse for not having common sense. Saw a similar incident to the Stadler one when I was a kid at my old mans course. We had just gotten 6 new carts with tops. One of the hustlers with a known bad temper missed a shot with a 4 wood and in a fit of anger literally wrapped the club around the top brace which was steel in those days. The club wrapped around the brace and broke. The head hit him in his chest right over his heart with so much force it knocked him down and he was a big strong athletic man too. He actually had deep tissue bruising down to his heart. He was lucky just think if the shaft had came back first.

My old man never lost his temper on the golf course but one time. He was an advocate of one not losing his temper on the golf course. I remember the guy cussed and said that shot cost him about 5K ( those guys gambled high) the old man quipped at him it damn near cost you your life you idiot.

Golf is, and should remain as one of the safest sports we can participate in, but safety is easily damaged bad, when players without understanding or respect for the possible risk involved or when they choose to ignore them. Be it teeing up and play out to early compared to players in front of you on the same hole, or playing a club you should know has a high risk of breakage. Im a former gunsmith, thats why i have a lack of hearing today, but if we had taken just as easy on shooting safety as we did with our hearing protection, someone would have got hurt bad...(we did not care to much about using hearing protection if it only was to test shoot a few rounds.....we should have known better)

Gotcha. I ask because heel strikes are tougher on shaft tips and a tendency towards that is the most common "normal" cause of shaft breakage down there.

Hah! Yeah that will do it over time. Shafts with stronger, reinforced tips may help. What shaft is the one pictured above that cracked?

Ah that makes sense, inexpensive lighter weight stock OEM shaft. If you're looking for a replacement and want recommendations then let us know! Give as much information about your swing including speed, any tendencies, and any other shafts you have liked in the past.

Just 2, but I had hit several with it at the range just minutes before. Also, i hit shots with it on other occasions. Not many in total, but no telling how much it had been hit before I bought it. I got it at a Play It Again Sports and everything looked fine when I picked it up. There were no signs of any abuse whatsoever.

Sounds like a plan! The G30 is definitely a killer driver, holds up very well.
