Dallas Area Recommendation (For an out of townwer)

I will be at a conference at the Westin Galleria in mid-February. Loking for a top golf course within 30-45 minutes of the hotel. Any recommendations?

TPC Four Seasons never disappoints. Prior host of the Byron Nelson. Very tough track. Waterchase. Old American (LPGA current track). Grapevine GC. Coyote Ridge. Texas Rangers. Cowboys.

I grew up in the DFW metroplex (Keller) and I would say I have played the majority of courses in the DFW area. My personal favorites are Texas Star in Euless, The Tribute in Lewisville, Tierra Verda in Arlington. All are reasonably priced and I would highly recommend.

I enjoyed Tierra Verde when I was down in DFW. Played with @TXTrapLord
I played like I had two months of rust on my swing, but enjoyed the layout and conditions

I’ll be headed to the area as well. I’m staying in Las Colinas. Looking for something that’s costs a bit less than Cowboys and TPC Las Colinas I won’t have my clubs this time so I’ll need to rent - although I searched some some of the courses listed in this thread, I don’t seem to see rental rates any idea how much those might be?

I’d like to be around $200 max with club rental. Less is preferred. And most importantly- close to where I’m staying - 20min driving at most. Anything that fits that in the area that is still good to great condition (not a goat track) And reasonable pace?

I know I might be asking a lot, but I know I won’t get it all. Appreciate the input.

Ended up at Texas star. Thanks for the Recommendations. First time I’ve experienced having to read not just breaks on the green, but grain. Never got used to it. It was nice and although it’s the only place I played on this trip and no other Texas courses to compare to, I enjoyed my round even if I didn’t play well!

Glad to hear. Texas Star is my favorite course in the DFW metroplex. Definitely not an easy one, but it’s generally in great shape. And they just spend $700,000 on all new carts, so that’s a nice treat as well

I'm going to piggy back this thread before starting my own, but I'm looking at 3-4 days in Dallas for golf only late May/early June. Cowboys and Tribute are on the list. What's the deal with Tour 18? Any good or totally skip it?

Also what area would you suggest staying in? I'll be solo and won't be looking for any late night escapades. At first blush I may just stay at DFW but I could be convinced to stay elsewhere.

Don't waste your time with Tour 18. I haven't played there in a couple years, but the course was in dismal shape the last time I played it and I haven't heard a good review of it since then. I don't know what kind of $$ you are willing to spend but you may enjoy staying at the Four Seasons in Las Colinas and adding TPC Four Seasons to the courses you are trying to play. They used to host the Byron Nelson there and the course is very nice. You could stay in Grapevine right near Cowboys and Grapevine Muni and that would be easy access to 121 to get out to Tribute and you would also not be too far away from Texas Star. You may want to look into playing the new Texas Rangers course as well. I enjoy it quite a bit as it has a much different look than most of the courses in DFW.

I just played Tour 18 two weeks ago. It was in terrible shape. Bunkers were all unplayable, we treated them like GUR. Recent rains had everything in poor shape. The greens were very nice though. It's a shame, because every hole is famous and tough. If they took care of the course, it would be amazing to play. Oakmont, Cherry Hills, Muirfield Village, Amen Corner, Firestone, Sawgrass island green, Blue Monster.

The Tribute is in good shape.

Cowboys is a great track, and a must play if you can afford it. Try to get a rate via Golf Now. Rate includes a meal, so keep that in mind.
