i just got a new p760 set. fitting was done through taylormade. they told me they would stop accepting customized orders for the p760 by june due to incoming the newer model.

For those that have played both P760 and P790, is there a bit difference in forgiveness between the two?

Owned 17 P790’s for two years and demo’d 760’s numerous time on the monitor and will say the forgiveness is not a huge difference, but some.

I had both. I found more control of distance and workability with the 760s than the 790s. Plus I like the way they set up at address (part of that was less offset in the 760s). So I sent my 790s to one of my best friends ( a good player) who needed a little more tech and he has loved them and we both have never looked back.

... I play both and while I agree with some here that there is not a huge difference in forgiveness between the 760's and 790's I think it kinda depends on your miss. Hit it low on the face and the 790's are noticeably more forgiving in trajectory and distance. After 3 back surgeries there are days when my back is very tight and staying down thru the swing can be difficult and on those days I love my 790's. Toward the toe and the 790's are a little more forgiving but not a big difference for most, especially pretty decent ball strikers. I have to admit for a head that looks so much smaller and compact at address, the 760 mid and especially long irons surprised me with their forgiveness. For reference at age 67 I can use the additional length of the 790's with a 170 7 iron instead of 160 with my 760's, but I still play my 760's on hard, fast greens.

... Not for me. The big difference I find is the 760's launch high with good spin while the 790's launch very high with reduced spin but I find both to be very neutral with the 760's a hair easier to work side to side.

So how about this, the perfect foundation for combo sets. Bring out a 760 and 730 replacement. Make them both idientical to the 790 gen 2 in badging, finish etc. Only difference would be blade lenght and "volume" and possible goo in longer 760s like there is now. That way you couldn't tell a difference in the bag unless you look really close. The 750/770 did this great but noone else has ever really done it in that same way and would love to see it in a complete lineup from blade to distance players iron

... If I could get a wish granted, I would wish for a set of P790's that are weaker and match the P760's so we could combo the set. Loft alone will not solve the problem completely as the thinner faced 790's will produce more distance than a comparable 760, but it would at least be close enough to be doable.

I couldnt agree with this more. I love the slightly stronger lofts in the p760 - perfect for my yardage gapping. I currently mix in the P790 4-iron since the p790 4-iron is 1deg stronger. I wish i could mix in the P790 5-iron too but the loft discrepancy is no bueno.

I'm afraid the new upcoming p760 lofts will be weakened so that p730 users can mix in the new p760 long irons.

I have the 4&5 iron in 790's and 6-pw in 760's. I had the 4&5 bent one degree weak and I have had zero gapping issues.

I played a combo set of A-7 in p770 and 6-4 in p790 for 2 seasons and had no gapping issues with them bent as taylormade recommends. Only switched out of this for some more forgiveness and now have a full set of 2019 p790's in the bag.

I'm sure this exists only in my dreams, but I'd love a players cavity that takes blade length and head shape cues from the P7TW. I absolutely love the shape of my TWs, but wouldn't mind having something similar that's a CB.
