If true that would be insane as why wouldn't Honma want more free tv time.

No way this could happen. If a company did that, word would quickly get out to the other tour players and they would never have anyone. You still have to be professional and their bottom lines depends on customer service, word of mouth since they are not very well known.

Agreed. It would be a manufacturer effectively breaching contract to have someone physically pull the clubs without warning, the optics of which would make it difficult to sign players to deals in the future... irrespective of whether they were right to do so or not.

To blame the equipment is outrageous. Justin Rose clearly has lost confidence and his swing is all over the place. Shanshan Feng plays homna and was world number one for 6 months and won plenty of tournaments. Why did he switch from the first homna Jr protos? He needs to go back and stop tinkering when the formula was working.

Completely agree. He's searching, has been searching for most of the last 12 months and it's written all over his face.

The JRPROTO is a stunning iron but if you've got several swing thoughts in your head and absolutely no confidence then anybody would struggle to hit it. More and more practice swings before each shot, lots of back forth with his caddy over club selection, the most manufactured, unnatural putting stance. Had to laugh at the suggestion earlier that he's "not far away" from form. He absolutely needs to stop tinkering, stop thinking and play golf instead of playing perfect swing.

That would be absolutely nuts if that did happen. I guess it might be written into his contract that the clubs he is playing remain the property of Honma?

The only way I could see that happening is if for some reason Honma found them to be either be non-conforming or to have some sort of patent infringement. My guess is he's just gotten frustrated with his results and wanted to mix things up with his equipment. If he was completely done with Honma we would've seen him out there with a plain staff bag and not giving Honma free advertising.

Dude was #6 player in the world before Foley but I guess you're just choosing to ignore that, had won 4 times on the European Tour. For Example, Tommy Fleetwood has won 5 times on the European tour, I think if he went on to win 10 PGA tour events over the next 10 years I don't think we would be saying that his coach made him good, but rather that he had been a good golfer that had just happened to underachieve on the PGA tour prior to that point.

I doubt the deal was entirely front-loaded so Justin is probably leaving money on the table if he departs as suggested. Some of the comments seems to suggest Rose wouldn't have tested the clubs prior to signing, does anyone honestly believe that?

I actually got to spend a day with Justin Rose late 2009 not long after he started working with Foley and he sang Foleys praises back then when they’d not been working together that long.

He spoke of how he had over 100 Taylor Made drivers at hone with different head/shaft specs because his driving was so bad. He talked about how he hit a shot at the US Open at Bethpage which was 08 I believe where he hit it left into 18 and decided he needed a change of coach.

He’s gone from a top European to consistent PGA tour winner and Top 10 in the world golfer and it took time for him to become so consistent. He talked about how uncomfortable he was pre Foley.

I think he would attribute a lot of his success to Foley

I think it’s a huge stretch to blame clubs for a Tour Professionals struggles. These are the elite players in the world and it’s tough out there. I’m confident we are all well aware that this game is intense. Money and contracts are an entirely different animal. If there is a growing rift we won’t hear much about the actual details. This has nothing to do with Honma quality. BB
