Ping i59

I am super interested in thE PXG 0311t gen 3 irons, mainly because I hit a gen 2 and it was the best feeling iron I’ve ever hit. But...if these i59 keep up with ping’s trend of figuring out how to make their irons feel nice and smushy, I will be very interested. I mention this thought because to me PXG irons share a lot of DNA with ping. I am big on what clubs feel good to me on center strikes and am thinking about paying up for that pxg feel, but am afraid of a severe case of buyers remorse if these i59s turn out to be everything we all hope they will be for a more reasonable cost.

These are my feelings exactly. If I pull the trigger on PXG, I can guarantee Ping will announce their i59 after I complete my first round with the PXG.

Any Updates on Release Date of new I Series?

Talked to my pro who is a Ping staffer. He knows I always want inside info on upcoming products. Our rep isn't talking specifics but he said the summer releases are going to be huge this year. He said just "wait til you see what we do with the driver". No mention of irons but just that stuff will start to leak May-June when players start testing and its going to be one of the best years upcoming for Ping he remembers.

Summer sounds good! I think I can make my iBlades last until then! Even with a new driver, I might not upgrade or upgrade to the G410 line at a reduced price.

I've heard similar. Summer release on 2 new/updates to irons that are supposed to be the bee's knees. He wouldn't go into specifics either.

For sure an iBlade/s?? type and I was under the impression and update to the 210 as well but I’m not sure if I was reading him correctly or if that fits within the product update cycle

Gonna be an expensive summer...this is the year I build a blended set of irons, and I'm due a driver.

 

Wedges are worn out...I guess I'll "have" to do a full bag fitting...I'll just tell the wife I'm going out of town on work for a couple days so she doesn't "smell" the new poontang on me...

If "i59" is the name, I would think that is the i210 replacement and not the 'iBlade 2.0".

Can't imagine that they would use the spiritual brand successor of the Eye 2 to be anything other than a players CB.

I think that would be cool. Kind of the greatest hits of the Eye series all wrapped up. That said, it would be weird to intro it 61 years after instead of 60.

I can see Ping doing something like this: Keep a "Blueprint" type forged blade for short production for the people who just love that look and feel. I think Blueprint was a bit more popular than they initially estimated. Then Ping goes into the "i" series that fits the rest of the "players" categories. an i59 (or two digit) would be small cavity players irons replacing the old "s" and iBlade lineups. Then replacements for the i210s in the "lower hundreds" with a bigger cavity and more forgiveness but still workable. Then have the i "high hundreds" like the i500 where they can really put their newer technologies in for Players distance. The goal would is to be able to blend any of the "i" series into a set based on need.

They can keep the two sets in the "G" lineup, which is game improvement and super game improvement.

If the Ping Engineers are giddy about a product release, that makes me giddy. I don't care if the marketing team is giddy because that may mean they found a snazzy name for whatever the newer technology is that may or may not make my game better.

My hopes/guesses on what it will feature:

-Either less offset in the 3-5 irons, or some sort of visual tricks to reduce the appearance of the offset

-8620 steel like the blueprints, because people still have the perception that softer steel means softer feel.

-stealth finish or the option for it

-seamless blending with a more distance focused set in case you want to combo where they have also done the math for you and you don't have to wonder if you need to tweak the lofts for individual clubs.

-All of the above OR just take a set of blueprints and make them bigger and tell me the toe screw and hosel weighting make them more forgiving. I'd also buy that set.

I don't know when Ping will update that i500 set with some form of internal foam dampening to improve feel, and with an improved spin model in the mid-irons but I know that when they do, there will be a sudden spike on my credit card.

It will likely be i500 and i210 update. They have regular 2 year cycles for these style of irons and they were both released in summer of 2018.

I think officially unofficial word has these confirmed as postponed unless a miracle happens. The i500 and i210 were released in July and I remember seeing them trickling into tour bags in late May or early June. It's hard to say as we haven't seen anyone tee it up since early March and the events beginning in June will give us more information. However, PING usually keeps their lips really sealed on product launches until about a week ahead of time. I remember seeing the Glide 2.0 Stealth in the store and having no idea they even released them, same with the iBlade irons. I walked in one day and there they were, no writeups, no ads, and barely a whisper about a confirmed release date on here.

Rumors of Mizzy and Srixon proceeding with releases this year. Any news on Ping? They're backordered into late August on i210 orders right now according to our local PGA Superstore. I'd still love to see them unveil the irons they were planning to release this year sometime before the PGA show next year. Patience isn't my strong suit and I really would like to see what amounts to an i210 with less offset in the long irons.
