Golf movies on amazon prime

Bagger Vance - when Bagger is talking to matt Damon's character about Bobby Jones swing and how Bobby sees the course...classic. Arnold Palmer's "How I play the game" I think that is the title. I think my wife and I have watched this 2-3 times in the last three weeks. Man, Arnold was the man...until Jack showed up! It is good just to hear his voice, very reassuring! Many more so let us know what you watched and what you thought. Thanks, John

I second what @roughhater thinks about Bagger Vance. Good movie, well done period piece. Golf can be an almost spiritual endeavor - I find that playing alone at the end of the day is almost walking meditation, and the film gets that. The actor who plays Bobby Jones (Joel Gretsch) has a sweet swing. Bruce McGill (Animal House, My Cousin Vinny) also looks authentic. Matt Damon was clearly a work in progress, and you can see some scenes where they used creative camera angles to hide that fact.
Also check out The Greatest Game Ever Played. A bit cheesy (it is a Disney piece) but it is based on fact (the first amateur to win the U.S. Open). Shia LaBeouf has what looks to be a pretty decent swing, which is impressive because the story goes that he lied during the audition, claiming he was a good golfer when in fact he had almost no exposure to the game. Hours of lessons later...

Legend of Bagger Vance got blasted bad. It actually almost ruined Matt Damon's career...I think there's a story about how the phone stopped ringing (for movie roles) after Bagger Vance bombed at the box office. Wasn't until The Borne Identity that his career was resurrected from near death. The problem with the movie was that those who read the book found them to be very different subject matters...not just the old...it wasn't as good as the book, but a very different subject matter. It's been a long time, but I recall thinking that the book deals much more directly with "God" while the movie centered around being at peace with oneself. I actually really enjoy the movie and the spiritual aspects of playing the game and living your life in harmony. Every now and again I'll have that round where I "see the field".

The Greatest Game Ever Played is actually a great movie. I really enjoyed the setting, story and the cheesy Disney tear-jerker moment near the end of the movie.

Most golfers dislike golf movies because of how bad a golf swing looks or how inaccurate it might be, but if you just want to watch the movie for pure entertainment, both those movies are decent.

A Gentleman's Game is decent movie...think it was previously available on Amazon Prime...but may not be anymore.

Dead Solid Perfect is on Youtube. Youtube also has a lot of tournaments and recap shows from the USGA and The Masters.

I like The Greatest Game Ever Played but can't seem to get past the inaccuracies in the movie. The 1913 US Amateur was played at Garden City on Long Island, not The Country Club at Brookline. Ouimet actually reached the quarterfinals of the Amateur before losing in 20 holes to eventual champion Jerry Travers. Which means the scene where Ouimet's father gave him the $50 entry fee on the agreement that if he failed to qualify, he would quit golf never happened. As a matter of fact, Ouimet had been a member at Woodland Golf Club just a few miles away for quite some time. Ouimet never had to be asked by the USGA to play in the Amateur or Open. He qualified for the Amateur by winning the 1913 Massachusetts Amateur. His quarterfinal appearance in the US Amateur qualified him for the US Open. At the 1913 US Amateur, Ouimet made enough of an impression on Bernard Darwin that he wrote an article suggesting Ouimet could be a wild card at the 1913 US Open three months prior to the Open. It also bothers me that the movie didn't make it clear exactly who Bernard Darwin was. Personally, I believe these inaccuracies (among others) are why Mark Frost hasn't allowed Hollywood (or Disney) to ruin "The Match" by turning it into a movie.

I know, I'm a nerd!

I bought a copy of Dead Solid Perfect of eBay a few years ago. It's on CD but copied from a video tape. While some think this movie is corny I really like it. Dan Jenkins sure put a lot of Golf cliches in that movie. I've got it loaded on my iTunes so it's available on my computer or phone anytime I want a good laugh.

People can say what they want about Shia LaBeouf, he is eccentric and has done some really dumb stuff over the years, but dude is a good actor and gets way into his roles. He recently got a full chest piece tattoo for his new movie that’s coming out. That’s some dedication.

I will pile on the Legend of Bagger Vance recommendation. Also Greatest Game Ever Played. Both great movies.

Dead Solid Perfect (based on Ray Floyd so the story goes), Tin Cup and Caddyshack.

Seve was really well done for a more serious flick.
