First time Scotty owner/ First time Scotty Paint Fill

Let me start by saying I've never refinished or paint filled any clubs previously. I think I did a decent job. Not perfect by my standards but figured I'd leave it for a while and can always redo it next winter as a project. I had a little annoyance with getting little Q-tip fibers sticking in the surface when cleaning the excess paint with acetone. It left a couple blemishes in the rings but not too noticable. Only small adjustment I think I should have thinned the blue a little more for the letters so they were brighter.

I used Tamiya x-23 clear blue and x-2 white. I used acetone and blunt needles I got from work so only have the $6-8 of paint and my time into it.

 

Question for the experienced folks... Do you paint clear over the letters on the bottom and face? Or will the color hold up to regular towel wiping?

Thanks. I was sweating the never done anything like this before a lot more than it being a brand new one. In all honesty I almost torched it as well but that i did not want to do first time to a brand new putter.

Yea, torching first time would be scary as well. I have a Newport coming next week. I need a putter like a whole in the head, but I’m addicted. I am even more addicted to the murdered out look, and may send it off to BOS and my customary KBS CT black. I’ll game it first.

Looks great! I bought double sided tapered tip cotton swabs for another use and tried them for the first paint job clean up I did. None of the fibers come loose if they aren't snagged on sharp edges.

I’ve torched a couple of Scotty Cameron putters. One, a NP2.5 from about 2013, came out a deep, rich golden brown colour and looks really nice. The other, a newer Laguna, came out a light gold.

The darker NP 2.5 was torched for about 15 min and the Laguna only about 10. It seemed to me the Laguna wasn’t going to get any darker.

It was kinda fun and actually pretty easy to do. They look somewhat similar in colour in these pics but the Laguna is much lighter.

Yeah, those look really good. I'd thought about buying an older one to try out torching on. One that actually needed the sanding and polishing anyways.

Looking good. I might go back and paint the centers as well at some point. I like the color contrast you have. Also thought about putting logo's in the center but couldn't figure a way to size and print what I wanted.

Can you explain your approach or technique to getting that two ton in the “Select”? Seen it before but wondered how it’s done.

It's pretty easy, just start at the end of the letter and spread the paint to where you want. Let it dry then do the opposite for the other color. I did the white first when I did the Newport 2 then very lightly cleaned the white select toward the other white before doing the other half blue.

Again, great job. I have a Newport coming tomorrow, but I won't be removing the paint fill anytime soon. Would love to send it off to BOS for Black Oxide finish. Not sure how it would work with the three dots in the back.
