Transfers around Scotland

I'm in the planning stages of a golf trip to Scotland, others in my party got a quote from a local travel agencies going thru a European company.

They have looked into some private transfers from Edinburgh to St.Andrews and back and from London to Kent (British Open) and back.

The quote came back VERY high, very. 600+ USD per. Am I taking crazy pills or is this what it costs over there. Finding concrete figures is proving difficult.

What is the cost of 6-8 person van transfers in Scotland?

If you google things like "st andrews shuttle edinburgh airport" you'll see a number of companies that do this. Here's one: Reliable Golf Transfers in St Andrews | St Andrews ShuttleTo me, its completely fair to question the booking agency about costs like these. You should also be able to see different levels of lodging, you shouldn't be "forced" to stay in the most expensive place in town. Same with golf courses, many packages will try to put you only on the well-known (and expensive) courses. A good booking agent will work with you to get you the trip you want.

Not sure if this is helpful at all, but I had an extremely easy time taking the train from Edinburgh to St.Andrews. Used ship sticks so didn't have to worry about dragging the club around and the wife and I only had two smaller bags. I realize that two people is completely different, just wanted to point out that the train option is very convenient and very affordable for your trips to and from Edinburgh/St. Andrews.

No, of course not.

The train is excellent to Leuchars no money at all. A van is probably 90 mins each way maybe £200 total. Uber probably less.

london to sandwich depends from where in London, it’s not far but a pig to get to. Probably cost a bit more.

I agree completely. I have pulled out of this trip due to the travel agent being unable to give me, or want to give me a break down of the costs. It is a shame as I would really like to go.

I am sadly caught in the middle of a couple where money is not a concern and other party that is 'this is once in a lifetime lets just go'. It is just not worth the hassle.

This would be my option but I am the odd one out on this trip.... Everyone just wants it to be easy and work, but they are also inexperienced travels, so I think they have fears that it would be difficult and they would be stuck in the middle of nowhere for 14 hours. I don't think I could convince them otherwise so I sadly had to back out of this trip.

I would take the bus. It's cheap, and actually easier than taking the train, which requires a bus ride on each end. The bus picks you up right at Edinburgh Airport outside the baggage claim, and with one easy connection you're in downtown St Andrews two blocks from TOC. Nice views along the way. One can pay with a credit card right on the bus. Couldn't be easier.
