Bridgestone Golf Tour B 2020 Lineup

Balls don't behave differently for different people. A ball might not suit you exactly because you want more or less spin in certain areas or a higher or lower launch. But a ball will react the same for everyone. There's no ball that will be low spin for me and high spin for you.

The problem normal people have testing balls is that the number of shots you have to hit on a launch monitor to really figure out the differences is way too many for any of us to really do. You're far better off just looking at their ball test data than trying to figure out which ball is 4 yards longer or spins 400 RPM more for yourself.

Balls definitely behave differently for different people. Player A has an AoA of -8 while player B has an AoA of -1. A single ball is going to perform differently for each of them. A robot swings at a ball a certain way. Players who swing differently than the robot are going to get different results than the test sshow.

wait, who at Golf Wrx doesnt swing like a robot?

when you look at a great majority of the data, most 3 piece tour level balls are do the same thing.....most 4 piece balls do the same thing.....the spin rates and distances are so close, its really just picking what you like from a feel perspective.

i do however feel the 5pc balls tp5/x are a bit different....the 5x is a spin killer off the driver.

I love the 18/19 version of the BX, it’s been the best all around ball for my game and never felt like it was a marble or hard like some have said here. When hit properly it feels as good as any “X”ball if not better.

I got the new X out in the course and it feels a little softer but still felt very similar with the driver and irons. It seemed to fly a touch lower 100 and in and spun identical around the greens for me. It for sure feels softer off the putter but still solid which I love about the 18/19 version. I never had durability issue with the older ball and the new ball held up great. All in all it’s a great ball and I’m glad to see it hasn't changed a ton.

This isn't how it works. Player A will generally produce more spin. Than player B. But the lowest spin ball for player A will still be the lowest spin ball for player B. The highest launch ball for player A will be the highest launch ball for player B. You can't design a ball that lowers spin for a high spin player that also doesn't lower spin for a low spin player.

The fastest balls will be the fastest balls for everyone. The highest launching balls will be the highest launching balls for everyone. The balls with the most spin will be the balls with the most spin for everyone.

The same ball won't suit player A and player B. But you can use the numbers in the ball test and figure out which ball would suit them

79C2XRP9A3NP.jpegIsn’t the XS more accurate (more spin) and the X longer (less spin) ?

i mean, not that this changes anything for me, but it’s the first time I noticed that on the bottom of the ball package

The B XS replaced the TP5 last year as my favorite ball. Since I am getting old and my SS started dropping, I gave the B RX a go, but I did not like the feel as much as the B XS. My SS has now dropped another mile an hour or so from last year so my average is a tiny bit below 100mph. I decided to give the B RXS a try and it has won me over. I feel like I am getting a tiny bit more distance compared to the B XS, but most importantly I love the feel on all shots.

New Favorite for me is the B RXS

I too played the TP5 last year (and for a few years before). First round yesterday with the BXS in Florida with a decent amount of wind. Drives seemed to launch higher with very good distance. Very little lateral movement. TrackMan showed about a 1.5 mph improvement with the BXS. The round yesterday seemed to support that.

<100 yard shots did spin more. Our greens are extremely firm. Was able to consistently stop / spin shots back in this range.

I've been trying out the 2020 Bridgestone lineup for a while now, and I have narrowed it down to two balls: the BX and the RX. The BX is longer off the tee (maybe 5 yards with a sprinkling of real bombs [for me] thrown in). It is shorter off the irons by around 5-6 yards, but spins more and stop quicker. The RX is shorter off the tee (and I don't hit any "wow" drives with it for some reason), but it is 5-6 yards longer off the irons. It also rolls out more than the BX. The spin difference makes the BX harder to gauge in the wind, and because it spins more, it curves more. FWIW, I think the 2020 BX is longer off the tee (for me--high launch, low spin off driver) than the 2018 version.

Around the green, they differ slightly but I can play either one. For some reason, I like the idea of my irons going farther, but honestly as firm and fast as our greens are, downwind approaches with the RX can be very challenging.

So the bottom line is that after a drive and an iron, the B RX is perhaps several yards longer overall. I keep going back and forth about this, which is bad because I need to make a decision and stick to it. I am having trouble pulling the right club on approaches because I keep going back and forth between these balls.

I'm thinking going with the BX and being done with it.

I'm not sure I agree with you.. For example, the TaylorMade TP5 is a 5 layer ball. Each bringing a different performance characteristic. So say Jon Rahm hits it with his driver at 120mph and gets into the core of the ball and it produces high launch and low spin for him. But then he hits a 2 iron at 95mph and the core does not get activated as much so the other layers come more into play and it produces a shot that spins 700-900 rpms more. That being said, what if amateur Joe hits the same ball at 95mph and does not fully activate the core so the ball reacts the same as Jon Rahm's 2 iron and it produces significantly more driver spin than is ideal for amateur Joe. I'm not a scientist, but it would seem the ball is not smart enough to know what club its being hit with, just that the forces that are put on it at that clubhead speed. Would love to hear a scientist's thoughts on this because I have always wondered about the multi layer balls. i seem to have the best performance with a 3 piece urethane cover ball over the 4 and 5 layer balls, but I don't swing my driver at 110+.

Had a go with the 18 BXS and 20 BXS and I’d say the 20 is maybe a hair softer and maybe a slight edge to it in the wind. The 18 ball can still be bought at like $10-13 cheaper than it’s replacement. I am currently playing the Tiger 18 ball and really enjoy it a lot. I’ve had my most consistent golf since I can remember. I really love the feel of it on all my clubs and it checks so well on a variety of greens I’ve played in the last month.

I bought a dozen of the 2020 BX to compare to the previous model BX (which I've used for a season) but haven't got to do a full wedge-driver test yet. I did use the new ball in a driver fitting at TXG last week and saw a couple MPH ball speed increase compared to my regular driver numbers, including hitting 170mph ball speed for the first time. I can't wait for things to open back up and do some trackman testing with wedges and irons. Overall it seems like an excellent ball.

Ya I did a full bag with Ian last year but didn’t buy a driver. Did Driver again this year with one of his fitters and found a combo that beat my gamer out. The whole team there is great and do the details right like fitting me with the new BX that I’m going to play this year.
