New to WRX.. what is the definition of average joe?

Recommended Posts

had a great time this morning. lost three in water hazards , got out of a couple bunkers in good order, parred a few and doubled a few more. wish I had avoided that water but the game was pretty average.

Reading through this thread has been a good time, lol. More often than not people typically will exaggerate their driver distances and or swing speed, just due to the male ego. It is also really easy to just flat out lie about skill set while posting on the internet, and like most have said already, not having to prove it in real life. However, I do feel like GolfWRX represents a different segment of golfers. Average Joe or “bogey” golfers are not nearly as obsessed or into golf or golf equipment the way we all are. So understanding that all of us that use wrx are most likely WAY more into golf than the average golfer, there is much higher probability of seeing players that hit the ball much further than average. At least that’s the way I view it. I am currently a scratch golfer and am very into the game and equipment, it just interests me. I have a few buddies that are scratch players or close to it and have never even heard of golfWRX or have even read a Golf Magazine lol. So I just wanted to throw my 2 cents out there as it may help some people better understand why it seems a ton of people on this site hit the ball as far as Tour Professionals.

Most golf numbers seem to be like fishing numbers...total bull hockey. I just recently took stock of where I'm at and...honestly...I'm driving the ball pretty consistently 240 to 245 during my rounds. I'm 53. From what I was reading that puts me in the top 5 or 6 percentile for amateurs my age. Yet...I'm a WRXer so I should be driving the ball 300. I can. But, I don't bank on that at all. In my regular Saturday group (most guys 55 to 65) I'm outdriving most of these guys by 40 yards pretty consistently. But, I'm greedy. I believe my swing speed is around 108-110. Am going to work with our club champion who owns a golf fitness business to see if I can get another 5 mph or so. At my age...we'll see. This guy I'll be working with is a beast - driving a couple of our 350 yard par 4s. We'll see how it goes, and if my body can do it.

Average for sure here.

Drives can be anywhere from a shank or 220 all the way up to 300 with perfect contact and conditions. Biggest carry maybe 260 with the rest roll out because I can not launch a dang ball haha.

Irons are very shallow, barely any stopping power, and dont have much height on them.

Wedges are different every round. Some days its a lot of duffs, some days its great contact.

Putter I like to think its decent. Most of the rounds lately have been under 2 putts per hole, but that helps when you are missing the green and chipping on. Easier to get the ball close from a few yards off versus 160 yards out.

Scores on a good day would be high 80s and bad day high 90s. Played the other day and shot a 93. Front 9 par 5s were both 9's on the score card. Also used the same ball throughout the round. Id say thats average joe.

I am worse than one group I play in and in the better half of another group I play in, so that probably qualifies as average . It's rare that I get a round with the same ball but it does happen occasionally. Started golfing in my 50's and now in my 60's. Worst part of my game is driver and putting but I put in a lot of time working on improving. My saving grace is my SS, which is above average for my age at 105 (driver) so I hit a lot further than most of my playing partners which helps, as I am usually a lot closer to the greens. I have also worked real hard on my short game this past year. My iron striking has improved quite a bit this past year, except I think I may hit the ball too high. Going to see a fitter and look into what shafts I should be using or maybe high is ok as I still get decent distance. My goal is to get to single digit.
