This disease is worse than the swine flu. The projections are 1 in 5 people who get it will be hospitalized and 1 in 20 will be on a vent. It has a higher r0 (r naught) factor than the flu. It's golf; not life and death. The idea is to limit the spike in the number of infections that could collapsed our entire healthcare system. So, it's smart and not an overreaction.

How late can they reasonably hold the tournament given weqthrr, course conditions, other schedule, etc?

Most wouldn't care if move the PGA back to football season if necessary but there are many involved in the decision.

Can't see it. When are the postponed events going to be rescheduled for as there aren't available slots in the schedule. I doubt others would step aside to make way.

I think the history books are going to show that a lot of events just didn't get played in the year 2020.

It seems to me that by saying "postponed" rather than "cancelled", they are leaving open the possibility of having it later in the year. And I'm sure the course could be tournament-ready throughout most of the summer.

But given all the pieces that would have to fall into place for it to be rescheduled, something tells me that there isn't going to be another Masters until next year. Gosh that just sucks.

I'm sure some on here know much better than me but most southern courses are bermuda because it handles warm weather, correct? A summer Masters would be really unique condition wise and would probably be an entirely different course. If they can't do it by early May I'd think it has to go to late September/early October.

Yeah, anyone comparing this to other flues simply has no idea how infectious diseases work and can be safely ignored. Shutting large gatherings down, limiting travel, etc right now is going to save a non-trivial number of lives compared to doing nothing.

It will more than likely be cancelled. They are just saying postponed for now to avoid the backlash.

No way they play this is the summer. Maybe in the fall? But typically the course is closed from May-October. Would they allow the public to see the course without overseed? Or wait until the overseed is down and grown in? I'd be very surprised if down the road they don't cancel the tournament for this year.

And lets definitely just cancel 2020. This year sucks.

No. Augusta's grass is for early spring and fall. Summer it's browned and dormant.

Courses that overseed take months to transition. It would be in horrible shape. That’s why Augusta is always closed in the summer. My home course had the Houston open the week before the Masters and it always looked like a dog turd from May until winter when they would overseed again.
