On a similar note. I just received an email from Sea Pines detailing their member and guest services status. All open. Detailing cleaning protocols , employee access to healthcare and the statement that at this moment the RBC heritage is On as scheduled. I found that interesting. And I doubt a statement that is made without confidence . But I also know the next 5 days will tell the tale . Just food for thought

If not, having waited forever and finally got lucky in 2016, I hope they give the same tickets to the same people for next year.

 

Or Masters to May and PGA moves to August or September, making it more likely the PGA happens.

If it’s not by May, and I really think it won’t be, then it’s not happening. Absolutely no way the members want the disruption twice in 7 months that an October date would mean, and no way they play it with the flowers not in bloom.

fact is it makes no long term difference to Augusta and it’s members in the slightest if they miss a year. They don’t need the money or the attention.

The azaleas will be long gone by the 3rd week of May but moving the PGA to October may be the best option given that a lot of tournament prep for an April Masters has already taken place.

Does CBS still televise NFL? They do NCAA.

Football is so much bigger than golf, who televises it? Would CBS preempt their football coverage?

I dont think there is any chance of it being in October due to overseeding. The course would be way too wet. If they didnt overseed it would be great, but the next April (2021) would be terrible.

Preempt football, lol, no way this happens. I'm guessing NFL gets 2-3x the ratings. 2-3 times. Final round Masters ratings are on a downward trend the last ten years.

Maybe they put it on some junior network like CBS Sports Network or some 2nd tier offerings. But do you see Augusta agreeing to that? Or an online only offering - charge people $100 to watch online? Augusta membership doesnt need to go through all this nonsense for even worse ratings - all to turn around and to it again in 6 months?

And the ratings might be much lower for college football - but do you think people in SEC country would want their Saturday games preempted for golf?

The azalea colors would be no problem - just paint a whole bunch of leaves white, pink, and purple - kind of like putting dye into Rae's creek or playing bird sounds from hidden speakers. dave

Taking the PGA date and PGA working something out with the Tour for August, or another date or playing PGA in late summer looks to be most realistic for Masters?

What do they overseed? They use perennial ryegrass for everything but the greens and it grows from fall through spring which is why they close the course in the summer. If they don’t squeeze this in by May then October or November is very much a possibility.

Have to believe they’ll make it right by the ticket holders and try to have it or carry over. I’ll gladly give up the tickets I’m sure I’m “winning” next year so others can get there! 2022 sounds good for my return. ;-)

CBS will broadcast the Masters over football for one night or move the NFL to a Saturday night game this fall is my bet. The ratings are higher for NFL games, but the Masters is an institution that CBS will bend over backwards for. Could always go online too.

Let’s say this virus dies down in a few weeks. What’s the latest in May the Masters could be played before it gets too hot for conditions they prefer? Late May?

All easily solved. If ANGC says they’re going to hold the Masters a certain week the players will show up. The question is if ANGC would be such a big bully as to tell a competing event “tough luck”. Players who qualified for the April event would be in the fall tourney. Anyone qualifying between April and the fall qualifies for 2021. Hotel space? Not a lot of competition for rooms in Augusta in the fall. If it is cancelled tickets will be refunded and start over next year. 2020 lottery winners will likely be guaranteed the same tickets for 2021.

ANGC closes at the very end of May every year until mid October.

CBS has the AFC package, so outside of NY and Boston, they have the smaller markets. Houston, Miami, Las Vegas (that feels strange to type btw), Cleveland, etc. So their Sunday ratings aren't quite as strong as FOX, that has NY, Chicago, LA Rams, SF, Dallas, etc. Their avg Sunday game is going to do a 12 or 13. For perspective, a "hit" TV show does like a 2 rating .

I love The Masters, but 0 chance, in October, they are coming anywhere near that rating. Last year with Tiger in the hunt, they did a 7.7.

Not to mention, CBS has The Masters on, which means FOX is showing an NFL doubleheader of, for example, Chiefs at Saints at 1 and at 4:25 49ers at Cowboys.

No contest who wins the ratings war.

The Masters can be a lead-in to a night football game. The ratings would be sky high for the Masters in the fall. The Masters is a bigger event than one football game despite the ratings.

I don't see them asking you to send the tickets back, no need for that. I could see them just sending new tickets out to the registered owner. That going to cause big problems for secondary buyers, but for those of us who finally won the lottery we will be fine.

One thing I am confident of is ANGC will do right by the 2020 tickets holders.

Going to be a real problem for the tour groups and those who sell their badges to tour groups for exorbitant prices.

Maybe - maybe not. Rental homes might be an issue as a lot of players & their entourages rent homes for the week. What do you do with the ams that had qualified but have since turned pro ? Possible contention with the NFL season ?

I'm all for complete cancellation this year and beginning the countdown to next year. If they hold it later this year then I gotta use the tickets or lose the chance to ever go again. That will mean scrambling to book time off and possibly cancelling some other things I've committed to. Do the azaleas survive all summer and remain in full bloom by Sept/Oct?? I mean seriously, let's just call it off and keep April as the only time for the Masters. It won't be the same for us patrons attending for the first (and likely last) time. I'll have to put an asterisk on my completed bucket list #1 trip

lol the NFL is such a big deal the PGA Tour literally rearranged their schedule to be finished with their season prior to the NFL starting.

CBS will not give up a week of NFL football, nor SEC football.

If it was any other tournament, I'd say yes. The Masters is bigger than one NFL game despite the fact that football gets better ratings. People are going to long for the Masters in the fall should they reschedule and I expect the ratings to be unbelievable. But I also said that I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL allows CBS and NBC to have a Sunday night game the week of the Masters. The Masters finishes us at 6 and that leads in to the CBS NFL game so CBS doesn't miss a game.
