Great course! Played there last summer with my grandpa. He average about 185 on his drives and played from the closest tees and still broke 80. I played from the tips and struggled to an 80. Was in really good condition, a lot of tees to choose from where to play to make it fun for all. A great mix of short and long holes. Worth the trip!

Played it several times and have enjoyed every time. Course is well taken care of and the staff is always friendly. Course is challenging, but fair.

Went down w 8 guys in April. Went expecting a lot and was very much satisfied. I've played a lot of the highly ranked courses in Midwest and its on par w The Harvester in Iowa which is ranked higher. Been Lucky enough to have played Prairie Dunes several times and I prefer Firekeeper to it honestly. First 7 holes remind me of Prairie Dunes where it's open and long, bunkered. Then next 3 are placement type holes. Then it is just good traditional holes where all are memorable. Length is def a plus here. Greens were soaked w rain and still were quick. Wind is always a factor. It's 3 hours away and I always try how to figure out how I can get away even on a day trip it's that good.

I agree in that it reminds me of Prairie Dunes.

But it ain't PD.

That said, it keeps improving every year and is now in tremendous shape.

The bent fairways are like carpet due to the general lack of play.

The rough is starting to get pretty thick, too.

Probably one of the most underrated courses in the Midwest.

I am surprised by all of the love for Firekeeper in this thread. I played a tournament there last year, and while the conditioning of the course was fine, I did not like the layout at all. Off the tee, I think it is terrible. I am okay with one or two blind tee shots, but it feels like all day long you can't see your tee shot land. Throw in holes like 8 and 10 where you can be dead blocked from the fairway and 18 with its goofy split fairway, and I just don't enjoy it.

I’d stick with the casino if you’re staying there. Not much around there unless you want to drive down to Topeka. Golf wise, Firekeeper is the best around there. If you don’t mind driving a bit Colbert Hills in Manhattan is good. Lots of good places to go out in Manhattan too, it’s a college town.
