Delray/Boca Public Courses

Hey All,

 

I have a buddy making a trip down to the Delray area and asked for advice where to play at the beginning of February. Looking to get out on a public course and came across these 3; Osprey Point, Atlantis and Atlantic. Any advice or guidance? Also open to other public tracks in the area. Thanks!

In my opinion Osprey is the nicest public track around. Kind of hard to get early tee times but that has always been my number 1 choice. I can't speak to the other two but Osprey has always been in great shape and it is not a typical Florida course(no homes lining the course). They have a nice range, chipping and putting area and also they have 27 holes 3 separate 9's.

 

As a bonus there is a high likelihood of seeing some wildlife!

Osprey Point is on a much higher level than the other 2. I have never played Atlantis, but understand that it is similar course to Atlantic National. I enjoy Atlantic National. All holes are very different and is in decent shape, but If I had 100 rounds to split between those 3, 98 would be on Osprey Point.

Haven't played Osprey in a few years but as I recall, on at least 2 of the 3 9s, you'd better hit it pretty straight. Lateral hazards penalty areas on both sides of some fairways.

Atlantic National is a very nice layout. Not sure of the condition recently. Don't know Atlantis.

Westchester, in Boynton Beach (just across the Delray border), has 3 9s as well. All 3 9s have a nice variety of holes and the greens are pretty decent.

Osprey Point is nice. It's pretty difficult as well, particularly when the wind is blowing. I would rank the courses at Osprey Point as #1 Hawk, #2 Raven, #3 Falcon. They take excellent care of the course.

 

I like Atlantic National once you get thru the first few holes. Conditioning is suffice. But a decent course that usually is a good value.

 

The only other course near the area I would recommend is Jacaranda.

Osprey is the best of the Palm Beach county courses.

Southwinds is a cute, short course that's pretty easy. Mostly older folks play there so it can be slow.

Okeeheelee can be muddy if it rains and is usually a 5hr round.

Park Ridge can be fun if you want elevation changes - quite a change from the norm down here. built on an old dump.

Atlantic National is quite good, but play it early before the "shufflers" tear the greens up. Sister course to Florida Club.

Winston Trails is good.

Atlantis is boring and usually in terrible shape.

Palm Beach Par 3. Lot's of fun!

The wife and are supposed to be going to Delray this upcoming weekend. Any locals mind sharing if it's "normal" down there. We still really hope to go out to eat but seems more and more places are closing restaurants and bars sadly. Fingers crossed normalcy resumes!

The situation seems to be changing by the second. Supermarkets out of all the hoarded items (bread, paper products, etc.)

Saturday I played at Westchester. Seemed pretty normal.

This afternoon I practiced a bit at Delray Muni and it seemed as though there were still people teeing off so also kind of normal.

Tomorrow ? Who knows ? This coming weekend ? As fluid as this situation is, way too far away to even hazard a guess.
