Potential World Tour Takes Aim At PGA Tour With Lucrative Individual And Team Concept

PGL is likely going to fall to the wayside. None of the top players in the world are going to want to commit to play the required 18 contracted events. The only guys that would consider playing it are the up and coming players that see more opportunity and it being more lucrative playing the PGL. However, the ratings will suffer because golf fans want to watch the top players battling it out.

Saying the ratings will suffer makes no sense. How can a hypothetical tour that never came to fruition have a negative effect on ratings? If nothing changes why should the viewing audience change? Golf fans always want to see the best but its impossible to guarantee under any circumstances.

I'm happy to see the bigger names come out and support the PGA Tour. I'm certainly not against a world tour one day and support the concept but not in the form the PGL has put forth. Between the limited 48 player roster, shoehorned team concept and questionable source of cash this was certainly going to be detrimental to the game. I think this will likely cause the PGA Tour to make some adjustments to it's schedule and purse distribution in the future both of which are minor moves to try and polish a great product. Personally I'd love to see the European Tour and PGA Tour work together more but I don't see that happening anytime soon given how much it seems the PGA Tour is going out of its way to protect its brand.

This was always DOA. Basically a dude running a quasi Ponzi scheme to milk saudi plus other investors on one side , and use that $ to attract players on the other. No telling what lies he told to get the $ guaranteed to start with. Either way. It’s easy to spot this as him playing both ends towards the middle. And he’s in the middle.

at the end of the day. Who cares ? We don’t need a new tour. And we sure as hell don’t want a team format. That would be more parity than we see now. You’d eventually see great putters Who couldn’t hit the ball out of their own shadow riding Cameron champ like “horses “ to team wins. Yuck. Like I said. Dead on arrival.

I would agree to an extent, other than the Open Championship and WGCs quite rarely do we get strong fields outside of North America. That is changing with the PGA Tour expanding to Asia with events like the ZOZO and CJ Cup however golf rich places like Australia or South Africa rarely get strong fields or commitments from top players. I know that is partly because of the travel distance but is also partly due to the event status and purse sizes for events in those places, the Rolex series event in SA is a good start.

First time I didnt read your post properly I thought you meant PGA Tour ratings would suffer. I said from the start the PGL would never materialise, citing the current strength of the game at the elite level, but there is no chance they look to launch unless they are guaranteed the top players. I doubt we hear from this group again.

As of now I think they will win on average 10-20% more than on the PGA Tour. Tiger was also rumored to be offered $200-250 million to join. Rory was offered $100 million - and he turned it down for now. That's before the PGA Tour decides to strengthen their own purses which will eat into that 10-20% if not overcome it. The PGA Tour is going to start getting $300-400 million a year more in TV revenue and they are not going to lose half of their top-30 players without significantly strengthening their purses to keep their players from leaving. Even if they aren't paid more, if they can never play on the PGA Tour again if they leave and if they aren't given OWGR points and might miss majors as a result, I'm not sure 10-20% more money is going to sway many players. The PGL is going to have to come up with a lot more money for this to work unless their players will be getting a 6-7 figures in appearance money. We've heard about how much money the PGL is going to pay, but we haven't heard details on appearance money yet.

As I was saying. The Tour has plenty of money with the new TV deal. Unless the Saudi’s want to increase their pot by $100 million, the PGL is dead.

Saw brooks Koepka going back and forth with Dave “el presidente” Portnoy on Twitter today. I can see the new program is motivating people to do stuff they normally wouldn’t do.

But yet Brooks did this type stuff years ago (2017) without this stupid PIP program ever existing..... You really think Brooks GAF about the this new incentive? I'm guessing you do without realizing BK gives people the business on the socials for some time. Must be a bro culture thing.

Brooks cares about every little thing and says he doesn’t. He lives on social media so yeah I think he cares about the PIP a lot.
