My friend, Just a clarification, the governors of Minnesota and Wisconsin have NOT shut down golf courses, yet. We will however have to come up with an alternate plan for selling pop, water, beer, as our bars and restaurants will not be able to open. Like the OP, we are all trying to be responsible in determining the best course of action for our customers as well as our business. I can't imagine any responsible course owner/manager, would defy the rules being set in these difficult times.

Unless I am completely off-base, Emergency Executive Order 20-04 from our MN State Governor in a sense did. (Section 1, paragraph g.) Anyway, the MN Section, MGA, GCSAA, Owners Association, and the like, are working hard to get clarification on this, since line g states.... "Country Clubs, golf clubs, boating or yacht clubs, sports or athletic clubs, and dining clubs." This runs through March 27th at 5:00pm. So far, no new news on movement to get it clarified. I believe some are still trying to remain open, if they were already open. That being said, the weather for the next couple of days will stop them, but next week seems to be nice and in the upper 40's and 50's for temps. We hope that we can get the clear to open with some serious policy changes/stances on contact points, social distancing, etc... It's a mess. I'm/was about ready to open, but now we are in an unknown. Courses just across the Mississippi River in WI are planning on opening. I have a friend in IA who is running on a skeleton crew of just salaried employees taking care of an 18 hole course, south of Des Moines. Who knows if things will change with our surrounding states. WI may stay open, or they might do what MN did. No matter what, it is a MESS. A big, big, BIG MESS!!!

The suggestion that some might be intentionally staying open despite any order got my antenna up a bit. I never worry about responsible owners and managers, but would hate to see a very few cause an issue for those that can be and are responsible, especially now when those will get extra scrutiny and tempt overreaction by the “man”. Hope things are as well as they can be in your neck of the woods!

No kidding Warrior, huge mess. I saw a note last night the Governor of Minnesota had confirmed golf courses could open. I can't remember where I saw it, but it was a legitimate source. There is so much info flying around it's easy to be confused, and I usually am, so you can't go by me. Here in Wisconsin we haven't been given the order to close courses, but I'm watching Minnesota closely as I'm sure we would follow suit. In my neck of the woods, it will be a couple of weeks before the weather will allow us to open, and the rules may change daily until then. We've lost about 60k in banquets already, hoping this doesn't keep going long. When we open it will be without the bar / restaurant until given the OK.

Well, I don't know where that note might have come from, since I think our MN Section Board and Staff would have told us so. So far, no new news that I know of.

My course in Southern California just closed today. One day after raising cups 1" above the ground and removing all rakes. Looks like i will be playing some urban golf.

Sun City courses in Georgetown, TX are closed (3).

will play Sunday at Shadow Glen in Manor, Tx Sunday as its open....we will see what the rules of engagement are...

I don't understand why shutting golf courses makes any sense, but my local course here in mid-Maryland is obviously preparing to do just that. They let all the part-time staff go yesterday, and they're running the place on a skeleton crew.

All of Pennsylvania shut down. Got out Wednesday before the governor put the hammer down on all "non life sustaining" industries.

How long will this last? I am certainly no expert in the field of infectious disease but here is some info the I think could be instructive. China's first cases are believed to have been in November. They locked down pretty hard once it took off and the new cases seem to be tapering off now.

Possibly we are in for the same sort of curve or maybe we will do better or worse. What happens next in China and other countries may tell us a lot about what could happen in the US. Will the disease flair up again or is under control? I do not know the answer to that one. I do know that folks in the medical field in the US are very worried right now.

Golf at this point is a rather trivial activity, a lot of folks are more worried about how to pay for their rent or mortgage and food. And of course how to guard their stash of toilet paper... I believe we will get through this but we are going to be different on the other side of it.
