4.6 to 4.8 Index players, what’s your wedge setup?

I’m currently a 4.7 and play a Ping i200 U wedge, a Vokey 56 high bounce K grind, and a Edel 62 degree. I’m interested to know what others in my handicap range are playing.

A bit of a precise range - can I ask if you handicap changes to outside this range will you consider having to play a different wedge set up?

I'm a 4.9 on a good day... I have my set PW, SM7 50 degree, SM6 54 and 58... Ironically, I bought the SM6s after the Sm7 as they were in my pro shop for cheap... 50 degree is full shots and roll out around the greens, 54 is generic wedge work, 58 is more specialty... I'll do flops, pops, round abouts, the ole ring around the rosey if I'm feeling it... Probably why I can't break that last 0.1 on my handicap.

It is plain you are playing the wrong wedges to improve maybe the Sm6s that were going cheap is holding you back?

Close enough, you narrowed range to a very small sample size.

I go with 52*, 58* and recently added a 64* for grins.

Played 52/58 for about 5 years, then decided to go 52/56/60, never really got into that setup, so back to 52/58, then decided to add a 64 just for fun.

Only play wedges that are in the bag of a player who is better than you. If no one is better than you, don’t use wedges.

Great thread, and I feel I am in the sweet spot of this questionnaire. Never been a Vokey player until the last 10 months, but I can see what the fuss is about. Very consistent.

Have always been enamoured with the idea of a 3 wedge set up for simplicity. Grabbed a 52 and 58 RTX 4 from global golf so I could use and return. REALLY loved the results. Only thing I can't wrap my head around is the grind for the 58. I found the mid grind was slightly more diggy than I'd like. Those things spin though oh my.

Guys running 46 (or 47)/52/58 what kind of grind are you running in your lob? Needs to be able to pull off full shots comfortably inside 100 as well as greenside floppage and bunker work

Then you must only detail on this thread your wedge set-up for your home course. If you play the same set-up up for away courses then that could be telling you something perhaps, hmmm?

People need to think a little outside the square.

As for me, I am a 4.7 and play an extended bag of RTX4's: 46 (MID), 50 (MID), 54 (MID), 56 (FULL), 58 (LOW), 62 (LOW) and occasionally a 64 (LOW).

I carry my driver 350 minimum so don't bother with fairway metals or hybrids so I can accommodate the wedges. Rarely bother with a putter either, I prefer to find the fringe and simply hole my chips.

So many over-complicate things, Happy had the right approach.
