Titleist 690mb

Hi can anyone help I have a chance of buying a set new titleist 690mb heads only they have the serial numbers and from what I can see a trusted seller. But my question is does anyone know if they were ever made with a satin finish?

I remember the 690.MB was a high gloss chrome finish, but don't remember the 690MB finish.

Yes that’s what I always thought. But the guy said his father was a ex tour player and that he has lots of cool stuff. Have a look at the irons see what you think and message me back here is the item number on eBay 124132151517. Must admit they do have some nice irons sets for sale.

they look legit. the way the serial number is engraved on the head looks authentic. plus these being from Germany could be limited run.

Yes perhaps they were done like that for a tour player, and never got used. I do like them. Im going to message him and see what he will take as that’s quite a hefty asking price for heads only.

Nice, but a lot of money for clubs that came out 15 years ago. Could buy used heads and get them refinished for a lot less.

Yes mate I could not agree more. I have had a few sets done before by the iron factory and the finish he does is exceptional. And on that note I just picked up some 690mb heads for £60 pounds or $90 dollars. They are in really good condition, and it’s 2-pw I will post some pictures, see if you guys think I should get them done or just re shaft them and start using them thanks

shaft and use! id be to worried about keeping the clubs in good shape after paying to have them fixed up. id enjoy them for the season and if you truly are in love with them, then i could see getting them redone.

Just looked at them on eBay. They are definitely a refinish job. The sandblasting ion the face is much heavier than a original factory head would be. Nice heads, but no way they are worth anywhere near what the asking price is.

thanks everyone, I will just shaft the heads as you say, plus I have already ordered some new golf pride tour velvet full cord. As to the other iron heads I was looking at on eBay, I think they have definitely been refinished as the sticking face is just not finished as good as it should be.

Yeah, just shaft and play those heads you have, couldn't even be a question other than a complete waste of money to get those refinished. Maybe in 10 years...

Shaft and play ‘em. They look fine. And you can just play golf without worrying about the new finish. Keep us posted. One of the all-time great heads.

Yes mate I do agree, its just that all the courses are closed in the uk for another two weeks. I have to much spare time. But I will try and resist the temptation and not get them done. It’s just that spare time is a dangerous thing for golfers like me with idle hands and minds ?

As said previously, definiteyl someone who cleaned up an old set. Certainly not a new set of tour satin chromes. Probably better off doing it on your own at least from a financial standpoint.

Yes mate I agree. I have a set of 690mb heads I got for a steal really, I normally take them to the iron factory and he is very good, but it’s the shipping from uk to USA and back again. Which works out about $150 dollars in all, but I have found a company in uk who say they can do it, so I have sent them a old mp68 head if it goes ok I will take them there. If not I will send them to Jim at the iron factory.

Curious on how the refinished irons compare to a new iron finish, in terms of performance?

Hi mate I have had two sets of mizuno mp33 done by the iron factory by Jim and what I will say is they were exceptional one set was in really terrible condition, but for the eight heads was $400 dollars, so not cheap but if they are a set you like and you don’t want to change then I would definitely recommend it. He stripped the chrome on mine then regroved them, also did the loft and lies before tour chroming them. He even puts the right amount of chrome back on so the weight of the head is exactly the same. Sorry I digressed. I used mine for about twenty rounds before I sold them, they played great especially with the sharpened groves producing lots of spin, made me realise how bad mine had become. They just played like new irons. I think he has even done some tour players irons, and he makes his own wedges. Hope this help if a little long winded explanation.

This. I had a set of brand new 690s just regular ones and they were cheaper then this with s300 shafts. Sold for around $800 which is still a lot but much better then $1100 for only heads lol keep yours and shaft them out!

Yes the face of the irons are to harsh, if there is one thing I found, with a few places I have had irons rechromed they all do good chroming but none of them ever get the striking face where the groves are as nice ie as fine or smooth don’t know why but they just don’t, surely it’s just down to not using finer particles? Perhaps I’m a bit ocd when it comes to this, but It would be nice especially after what they cost to get done which is not cheap, they could just spend a bit more time on the face getting it dead wright.

Hi can anyone just confirm what I think before I buy them. Are the Titleist 690mb a .355 tapper shafts and .355 ferrules thanks.
