KBS $-Taper

mackepa

Recommended Posts

To be honest, I have not played much lately due to the cold and wet winter. I have played just one round with Dots irons, not much difference but with slightly less offset and more loft. I do like the $-Tapers shafts so far. Both sets on hand are 1 flat (gold). I've always like irons with weaker lofts as I feel it gives me better distance control.

I will use the Dots this weekend when it somehow warms up briefly. :-)

Sorry that I wasn't very clear.

It DROPPED the SW by that many points. So, yes they were more counterbalanced in my personal experience.

Playing the C-Tapers in my Irons I‘m searching for a new shaft in my Utility. It’s the cobra with the AMT Tour White.

Wondering if the C or S Taper could make the Utility a little straighter.

Just got fit into $-Taper 130X. They really stood out in the fitting from a contact perspective. Haven't gotten the sticks yet. Contemplating some new wedge/shaft combos.

Still really loving my $-Taper 130X, but I sure do miss my C-Taper Lites. Does anyone have any experience with the $-Taper Lites...? They appear to be even lighter than the C-Taper Lites...

Curious as well. I usually like fuller swings with my 52 and 56, where as the 60 I tend to back off more. Is going down in flex but the same shafts really that big of a deal?

I have 125 S+ in my irons and went with 120’s in my wedges. I wanted something a little softer for my wedges since I rarely hit them with a full/hard swing. I like them a lot around the greens and on pitch shots. They have a nice trajectory and feel to them. They aren’t too heavy like dynamic gold for me.

I’m a little bummed that Callaway doesn’t carry the 125 S+. It’s either the 130x or 120s. I just ordered a set of Apex Combo irons to use instead of my old razr MB’s because my game just isn’t very sharp right now and was a little annoyed I couldn’t get the exact shaft I use in the RAZR’s. I ended up getting the 120 hard stepped 1x to see if that would match up close to the 125 S+. We will see.

I have the same 130X $-Taper in all my irons and the 52* and 56* wedges, because I generally play them like irons rather than wedges. The $-Tapers will spin more than the C-Tapers, which I think should make up the difference you're looking for there. However, I use the stock TT DG wedge flex in my 60* wedge, which is my main wedge around the green.

Yeah I'm curious too. A buddy uses S 130x in his irons and is looking for new wedges. I can suggest things like s400s, 610s, soft stepped S-tapers, or Hi rev 2.0s but I'd like to hear what people are using. The Hi rev 2.0 look to have the same bend profile and a little more weight -- might be the right move.

just got three 120S in today, so I'm running them over to have them built. I'm putting them in my sm6 wedges in case they aren't great. I doubt that will be the case

I have 4 rounds with the $130x shafts and really enjoying them. I e been a PX 6.5 guy for over a decade but my elbows don’t like them. I have been playing the Nippon 125x in another set for 6 months and really enjoy them. Time will tell what is going to win!

I’m not 100% sure but I believe that is what I’ve heard. They most definitely, for me, play very similar but are so much smoother!

I have played the 120x V’s and 130 $ taper (not soft stepped). $ taper were kind of a weird shaft for me. They had an inconsistent flight in a fairly small window if that makes sense. I could never dial in a consistent ball flight although they had pretty good dispersion overall. They had a higher ball flight than the V’s and a consistent high launch but were constant slight pulls or slight pushes. Never horrible but never consistent. I eventually went back to tour V’s and have played those for years so maybe I was just more used to them. $ tapers felt better to me but I could never get totally confident in them over the ball. I did not like the $ tapers in wedges, too high of launch and hard to knock down.

Might be interesting to see how the $-Taper 120 or 125’s would work for you.

Might be more comfortable in the same weight class to see more consistency.

I assume the 130 $-Tapers we’re swingweighted as well-they are a counterbalanced shaft that can require several grams in the tip to hit a target swingweight over D1 unlesss they are over length.

Hey guys, PSA, KBS just came out with the $-taper HT shafts.

Basically the $-tapers without the high balance point.

I have a feeling the HT will be a really fantastic shaft.

i just picked up a set of MP20 MMC with $ tapers 120 S in them, +1/4”. I was already in the market for new irons and wanted the MP20 MMCs. These just happened to be too good of a deal to pass up. I was gaming The first 790s with aerotech steelfiber i95. I was fit for the 790s and absolutely love them (I was talked into steelfiber, loved them at first, but had a hard time keeping them low. Or at least blamed the shafts :) ). The only reasons for a change are 1. Swing has improved and liked the way the MMCs feel/sound compared to 790s 2. Because golfers love new gear.

After 1 nine and a couple range sessions, not sure if I made a good choice. I’m naturally a high ball hitter and I feel like I launch these to the moon. I’m having a hard time hitting a low ball. I also feel like they spin more (I get the head is a contributor here as well). Lastly the shafts don’t feel as strong as I thought they would.

So do I:

Will lead tape help stiffen these up and lower flight if positioned correctly?cut them down to standard? Not sure why they guy had 1/4” added? Does 1/4” really do anything? Will this stiffen/lower ball flight? bite the bullet, go see a proper fitter and get a shaft I know works for me?

Any update on the HT version? I consistently get fit into $Taper by the optimizer but I am not a fan of how they feel balance wise. Can anybody compare the HT to the X100?

The profile is slightly different, the $-taper HT is lower launch, it's actually closer profile to C-taper.
