MD on lockdown now. Hogan just announced and executive order starts tonight at 8pm. Basically can’t go out except for food, medicine, or work.
Ive been running a lot just to get outside. I’m mostly avoiding the running path and sticking to quiet side streets. I’m not too concerned about being within 6 feet for a second while passing someone in the opposite direction, but still trying to avoid it if possible. I do wonder if there’s some real knowledge or etiquette that applies to that. Some people are definitely veering off the path so they don’t get too close, while most seem to be okay passing normally.
I will say that if an infection is passed between two people who pass each other on opposite sides of a sidewalk 4 feet apart, everyone will get it.
Ya'll are crazy. I have all of the desire to play all of the golf and wish I could play 36 a day right now.
What he said.
I had to go into the grocery store and WalMart yesterday and going into WalMart...you might as well just inject yourself with Covid when you walk in the door. Never again.
FWIW when someone tells me they have a 118 yard flag in their backyard my jelly meter goes insta-max.
Friend of a friend got corona just standing in an elevator with a person who tested positive so not good. They worked in the same office building.
Was on a call this morning expecting VA to become the same. They are telling us to carry our two work IDs plus email justification just in case they decide to pull anyone over.
Wow. That is one way to justify being out for work.
In non-COVID news, 50% off at Linksoul today:
I would classify this as very unlikely but better safe than sorry - in addition to the fact I live less than 4 miles from the office. I dont have a choice really, on the weeks our team is on rotation, we need to be there.
Agreed. I’ve been fortunate that my wife and I both work at home so this transition hasn’t been that rough except for the kid being home from school but she has been doing school work other random things. We usually go for an evening drive to just get out of the house.
I'm no virologist but how does anyone know how they got the disease down to that level of detail.?
They touched the same handles, the same buttons. They both could have got it from someone else. It takes like 2 weeks to show up and that person must have had tons of contact with tons of people over that time frame. they both could have got it from the same clerk at the liquor store.
Like Domes said, if you can get it walking by someone on a sidewalk, we're all gonna get it unless you go full hermit.
I'm not crossing into the street when passing dog walkers. Most of them aren't either.
This order is more restrictive than I expected. News reports are terrible at accurately conveying this sort of thing. This is the only copy I've been able to find: https://www.baltimoresun.com/coronavirus/bs-md-stay-at-home-document-20200330-54bdwlwzgbeanly54akhuzsyf4-htmlstory.html
I know all courses were already closed, but the last order was sort of vague as to whether they had to. This one specifically closes all public and private courses.
As far as shopping, it says you can only leave your home to buy necessary supplies. That's significant. Before, I could go to home depot just to get out of the house. Or to buy fertilizer. Or whatever. I think this actually makes that illegal. If my toilet breaks, I can still go there to buy stuff to fix it, but its seems like you've got to have some essential sort of justification.
There are other things you can leave for, like essential work (but just to drive home to work and back), exercise (but not in groups of 10, and while respecting social distancing, etc), caring for a family member, etc. But its pretty restrictive.
The one person that got sick had worked at home for 3 weeks and went into the office to get work when it was closed. I do agree it is possible to have gotten it from touching doors or elevator buttons or what have you. I was just pointing out the coincidence that the person got covid19 when the other person in the elevator had also tested positive for it.
Here’s another copy of it.
VA Governor just stated that VA courses can stay open.
Saw that. WTF. From this presser, I get the impression that this is all a big PR play and will have no practical effect on behavior.
Even beaches are still open for “exercise and fishing.”
Thinking about things green and golf, for a change, name hive guy that takes these Monstrous divots?
I'm just chilling in "winter" mode. Not doing garage cuts, or inside putts at the current time. I'll probably ramp up at some point, when it looks like we're heading towards a reopening.
Does the VA order specifically call out golf courses?
No. but the governor was asked in his press conferences specifically about golf and he answered you can still play golf as long you avoid gatherings of 10 or more. Clubhouses must be closed.
well anyone crossing that boarder has to sell quarantine for 14 days
Obviously, the issue here is enforcement. Next to impossible for states to enforce these orders, which leaves us in the same boat as relying on citizens' better judgement.
I hear that AltSean is going to be patrolling the MD/VA border in an Apache, shooting any golfers returning to Maryland.
My friend and I do this thing where we try to golf at least once in every month of the year. It's usually not difficult, sometimes we just have to go play on a 42 degree day in Jan/Feb or something like that. We almost missed July last year because our traveling and family stuff wasn't in sync. April is usually a gimme month, something you don't even think about. Would never have guessed it would be in jeopardy this year
On a more positive note, sitting inside and doing nothing has been pretty inexpensive so far
Has it really?
Signed, my American Express card.
35 minutes and counting until the lockdown and what I am doing, sitting inside watching tv.
