Coronavirus and small businesses

I wanted to share with you all a project I've been working on, called Pledge 1200. The Coronavirus has taken a severe economic toll on small businesses and their employees. Pledge 1200 encourages Americans who receive $1200 checks to spend as much of that amount as possible at small businesses. For many of us, some of our favorite boutique golf brands are under significant economic pressure, and need our support now more than ever.

Would it be ok with you if I spent mine on my mortgage and other household obligations? I support the ever living sh... out of small business and the majority of my work involves small business owners. But most of what we buy from small businesses is 100% discretionary. Our mortgage, light bill, car insurance, groceries and other necessities are almost exclusively corporate level transactions. Are a lot of us in the position to use this relief package to buy golf clubs, $6 fancy donuts and delivery margarita kits from the local bar?

I am an independent contractor, a small business. I am not sure what relief I can expect for small business but the individual portion I am to receive as a tax payer is going to be reduced from the $1200 because of this. As long as I am prevented from working (which constitutes travel to other locations in the US via air travel) I will be earning nothing. While it is very important to keep small business going, it is just as important that individuals survive this period. I am fortunate in that I have some savings so that I will be fine for a few weeks or months but there are many who are not as fortunate. There is much uncertainty so those who are not working need to do what they can during these tumultuous times. I pray for the good health of everyone and that this pandemic will wane sooner than later.

By all means do what needs to be done if you need that check to pay bills. But the OP’s idea is a valid one for many.

I agree. There will be a lot of small businesses with employees that are facing very tough times. I am hopeful we can return to somewhat of a normal situation soon.

This thread is a political call to arms and doesn’t belong on this golf site. Period. Shouldn’t be taking advantage of the privileges of this site to look for pledges.
