Are they closing any golf courses in the area you live in. (NO CORONAVIRUS RELATED POSTS)

Recommended Posts

SW Missouri. The private course I live on is closed. Several munis around are open. These munis are plenty nice to play on, but today shed light on the problem with this...5 players in front of us without a clue. Groups backed up as far as I could see behind me and at least 3 holes open in front of this 5 and no Marshall. On 16 I was probably a jerk but announced we were playing through them as we pulled up on the tee box where they were dancing to their music. One of the young ladies announced I was an ass hole but the three men stayed in their carts and just glared as we played through. I was on my way to my car before they finished 16(a par 3). I love golf but don't have 5:30 minutes for a round on a 6300 yard course. I am sure the weekday might prove better but I work at a Health System and lucky to get a day off period right now. Probably not many in my near future.

Delaware here and our golf courses are open. It is not that they are essential, but it is easy to stay safe and practice social distancing. Not sure why a state would not allow this very important physical activity when every body is cooped up inside. I would invite fellow WRXs out, but there is no guests allowed right now.

Im in the KC area (KS side) and like you its hit or miss as well. However, I just got an email last week that one of the public courses is opening back up but gotta book tee times over the phone or online and pay for it then. Club house and restaurant remains closed. 1 person per cart, foot rake bunkers, and cups have been modified to eliminate touching the pin. The private courses seem to still be open but for members only and guest are not allowed.

Governor Northam (Virginia) just had a press conference at 2pm EST today. Virginia has moved to a stay at home order effective today.

It appears one of the GolfWRX'ers work in journalism (or slipped into the press conference) as he was directly asked about golf courses remaining open. The short of it is, as long as they practice and enforce the social distancing standards, they may remain open. Good news for us Virginians who continue to play golf, but walk and follow the guidelines on top of continued hand washing (and hand sanitizer) throughout and after the round.

Not sure. I was expecting private clubs to be able to stay "open" down here a bit longer. My club closed all access to the clubhouse, bag room, cart barn, food service, etc. Only thing open was the course itself and members were playing at their own risk as long as they obeyed the social distancing guideline. Not even anyone checking people in at the pro shop. Just show up and tee off when you get there. I guess that was too much. GM received a call from the sheriff's office mandating closure.

I've heard rumors that some private clubs are still allowing play, but that's against the direct order from the county. Crazy times. Hope you get to play for as long as possible. Golf is one of those things that I fully believe can be done responsibly. Especially at a member-owned private club. But I will respect the decisions that have been made.

I'm in Omaha and most of the municipal golf courses are closed, but the private (open to public) courses are open with the following restriction.

Everyone rides in their own cart.

Flags cannot be removed from the hole.

The holes have either a cut down swim noodle or something else that keeps the ball from dropping more than an inch into the hole so it's easy to pickup with your thumb and forefinger.

No rakes for bunkers... you are allowed to smooth the sand with your foot.

In some cases, the clubhouse is closed and you have to pay online, then call when you get to the course so they know you are there. Some courses have the clubhouse open but they limit how many people can be in it at one time.

If I couldn't play golf, this social distancing would be unbearable.

Orlando courses are open. Not sure about city and county maintained ones though. Golf is listed as an essential recreation so they can stay open even though the county has a stay at home order.

Same general restrictions. No rakes. Pins stay in. Carts aren't as restricted, I think 1 per cart is a course by course restriction...some are doing it.

No water on the course and it's nearly 90 every day here right now so thirst can be a problem while waiting on the cart girl.

We called Johnny Goodman last Friday and they said they were not booking tee times, but you can call at 9:00 each morning and book available times for that day.

Forgot to mention that they are spacing out golfers 10-15 minutes instead of squeezing everyone in and risking backups at certain holes where multiple groups will be congregating.

Yeah they have all the rules listed on the website. One person per cart. Swigart and Hogan are walking only.
