Titleist SM6 wedges

After reading positive reviews about these wedges, I invested in a 56 and 60 bought online on ebay. I could not have been more disappointed in them. They look like beginners wedges, thick top line, large profile face, heavy feel and generally dull. How has Mr Vokey managed to design a club so poor for loyal Titleist until I die buyers? I don't get it.

your 2 generations behind. Take look at the SM8. The SM8 is more streamlined and not as thick looking as you say about SM6.

I’m not a huge fan of Vokeys, the SM7’s I thought looked great but the 8’s not so much.

 

i will say as my swing has gotten more consistent I find Vokeys to play better for me-imagine that! Lol

that said, I’m a Callaway wedge guy.

What were your previous wedges? I had a set of SM6 for a while and I didn't find them large or bulky at all. I thought they were really good, but the OCD ho in me moved on to the Glide 2.0 to match my irons.

There have been some brand new three wedge sets of SM6 on the bay, selling in the $150-$170 range at auction. I've been watching closely......waiting for my spot to jump on a set.

I have loved the SM6s I got when they came out and hardly look like "beginners" wedges. Great wedges. This seems an over the top semi-troll effort - probably best save that for something that isn't already two generations obsolete, lol.

Moved on as of yesterday (and need new grooves after 4 years) but since I can't use the new wedges until the elbow allows I'm not posting about them at this point. ;-)

Edit: just noticed it's post #1, lol. "Loyal Titleist until I die" buys used 4+ year old wedges on eBay. Sure.

Yup good call, definitely a troll post. 1) in the horribly wrong forum, 2) bi*****g about a ~4 year old, used product that is still extremely popular on tour, 3) while they have some points (Vokeys def. aren't the softest out there), they are far from a GI wedge.@m30kle at an 8 handicap and shooting around 80 most of the time, I'd suggest you try some of the game improvement wedges you thumb your nose at! They work well and haven't hurt any of the Ping tour pros.

No replies from the OP after 2 days... maybe mustering up the next reply since the first post took 4.5 years LOLOLOL. Just for reference an 8 handicap's average score is going to be more in the low to mid 80's, a handicap is an indication of the player "at their best". I love to SMH on opinion posts from high handicappers (because equipment is the solution mindset) but everyone IS entitled to their own opinions :)

I received a Titleist SM7 (52 degree) as a Tee Gift from an invite at my father-in-law's club a couple summers ago. Loved it so much I bought a 58 degree and 48 degree over the past 18 months. Once dialed in there is nothing better!

lol i still have an SM6 52 and 58 wedge! in fact i even have an SM4 64 that will probably stay in my bag for awhile longer! I have no reason to switch since I'm no where close to wearing them out even though they're the clubs i practice the most with after my putter. I consider myself a Titleist fanboy, too but I've only ever purchased one of their clubs new. I like finding bargains and almost always buy "new" gear a generation or 2 behind what's Titleist currently has on the market.

Amazing how many “beginners” on the PGA Tour somehow won boatloads of cash with the SM6. They must have lower standards than the OP. That top line he doesn’t like is actually to move the COG higher and produce a lower trajectory on scoring shots, which is what those Tour hackers want. What do they know?

Good deals on the Alien wedge on eBay. Might be the ticket. Could combo it with the stand-up putter. Rock solid on those 3-footers to save triple-bogey.

Great first post. It's amazing if you look back on the Vokey release threads how often previous versions are looked to as having been better. SM7, no better than my SM6, stick with those. SM8, can't beat my SM7s, not changing. They're great wedges if they suit your game. I'm still using my copper SM6 58* and have had my eye out for something to replace it and haven't found something that checks all the boxes yet.

I did! I've got three 54.S and two 58.S on rotation that cost a total of £200. I'm not going anywhere near wedges until I absolutely have too because here in Marbella new Vokeys/MG2's/etc are 150 euros each
