Ping i500/Blueprint

I am currently gaming a set of i500’s. I’m thinking of scratching an itch and mixing them up with a set of Blueprints. Maybe i500 in 3-4 iron and blueprint 5-W. Has anyone else blended these two with any success?

I had a combo set for a minute, 3-5 I500 and 6-PW Blueprint. I could not get used to the transition, HUGE difference in looks at address. If I had it to do over I would just go 4-PW Blueprint and maybe a 3 I500 with graphite shaft as a driving, iron.

Agree. I'd be more inclined to combo with a Titleist CB 4 iron or similar. Miura would be good as well given the square toe. The i500 is drastically different looking.

I have the BP in pitch-6 and i500 in the 4/5. Works well, I don’t hit the 4/5 a ton so I don’t notice any transition problems.

but I will say I’ve been surprised at how easy the BPs are to hit, makes me think I should have just gone all BP.

I have i500 4-5 and Blueprints 6-PW. As mentioned above, there is a significantly different look at address. More importantly for me, the i500s are 1/2 to 1 club longer than the BPs (they fly much higher, too). Make sure you account for that added i500 distance when blending lofts or you'll have a large gap.

I have BP's 5-p...thought about getting an i210 or i500 for a 4i replacement but it just looked weird to transition to blades. Easier for me to go from a hybrid to a 5i. I think my Adams Pro Mini is less chunky than an i500 lol.

I play the Blueprints 4-P, and as mentioned above I can't see the transition to i500 anywhere in the set being pleasant.

I've done that exact set -- 3 and 4 i500 and 5-PW Blueprint. It's perfect for me since the 3 and 4 are more like a traditional 2 and 3.5. 4 is usually the longest iron I carry so I like a little extra oomph out of it.

At the end of the day though, when I finally tested them vs my MP4s, the Blueprints performed identically, while the i500 launched a little higher (same specs same shafts). Mizzys are still in the bag.

I currently game the 3/4 in the i500's and 5-P in the BP. As others stated the appearance is significantly different however I haven't noticed any gaps in distance. I carry the 3 iron about 225, the 4 iron about 215 and the blue print 5 iron around 208. I actually like the aspect of the 3/4 because mainly I use those clubs off the tee so I prefer the added distance and forgiveness and off the ground the turf interaction is great and if i'm being honest i'm just trying to get the ball on the putting surface with a 3 or 4 iron. I also have my i500's shorten to blend the length with the blueprints.

 

In a perfect world I would probably have one an i210 3 iron and iblade 4/5 iron then 6-P with blueprints but i'm actually glad I tried the i500 from the performance they provide.

 

The blueprints are forgiving enough for myself I'd thought about going to the 4 iron in a BP.

This is a great call. I had i500/iBlade combo and couldn’t deal. The iBlades were perfect. But once into an i500 (6-5-4) I was swipping it bad... way right.

The offset is not the same at all. Or if it is the look is so different that I was pushing them so right it was annoying and lasted only a couple 9 holes and them moved on.

I will say the i500’s are easy to get up and long. I would have had to really work on them. Not a bad thing for irons to go right for me but not something I am comfortable with. Especially being a hooker.

I've had the 5-7i500 and 8-PW in BP for awhile now and the transition isn't too bad. I did order the BPs in the power loft though to offset any distance loss, given the same degree of club as the i500's are long. I'm currently looking to move up the ladder and find a 6-7 iron for the BP's. If anyone has one, let me know.

I have I 500 8 9 and pw. Love em. Will add in 2 or 3 longer instead of a different, as soon as Covid goes away and I start playing again. I have an older Mizzy GFF Fli Hi 24 degree 4 I like. I added a new Mizzy MMC 3 Fli Hi. And have 5 Mizzy wedges. What more could I ask for?

If you can handle Blueprint irons in 6-PW, you can handle iBlade 3-5.

i500 does not match up with Blueprint very well no matter where you mix them.

Now, I could see someone doing iBlades 5 or 6 to wedge with i500 in the long irons.

I agree with what many have said. It's quite the transition between the two sets. It's not the most natural combo set. I have 4 and 5 in i500 and 6-9 in blueprint and then 46 vokey wedge. Blueprints are strong lofted. The loft specs are basically what mizuno mmc's are for the blueprints amd the i50ps. There's a little gap between 5 and 6, but it's fine for me. I love having the ability to hoist up the 4 and 5 from 200 plus and land them softly. Being able to land my 4 and 5 like a 7 iron, but have the workability in my shorter irons outweighs that my setup isn't the most seamless transition

I signed up to comment here, since I've had specific experience. 4-iron has been a journey for me. I've been playing 5-P Blueprints for 9 months now, and I've been very, very happy. They are amazing. I've tried out the 4-iron, but it's just not something I can elevate consistently. So I've now tried 4-irons in iBlade, i210, and i500.

By and large, the best choice for me was a 210. Unlike the 200 series that was also hard to elevate the 4-iron (app 104mph driver ss), the 210 is no problem. It is entirely predictable. Whatever magic they did, it's great. The iBlade was ok, but for me was not "automatic". It felt like the same "forcing" necessary with the BP. The i500, on the other hand, is an enigma. You can start hitting it well, but trying to transition from any blade and suddenly taking a shot with it… spray right or even a dreaded chunk. Not every time, but enough that I don't trust it. It also goes a little higher off the tee, though that wasn't a bad thing on its own. As much as I wanted to like the 500, especially since it came in handy with a few left-handed escape shots, I took it out because dispersion was worse than any other club. The point of an iron is a tight window, right?

So in the end, should you decide you want to pair them up, I suggest you give the 210 a look. If you still want an iron above a 210, and want to go 500, ok. But just understand that if you're a Blueprint player, you may not want all of the offset and heat off the hollow face. Because frankly, if you're getting Blueprints, the last thing you want is a harsh, offset, potentially wild iron.

Great first post. I'm taking my demo set out tomorrow for the first time. I hit a very high ball so don't expect to struggle at all with that aspect. I'm more interested to see how much confidence I have on a 210 yard par 3 over water with that sliver of a 4 iron. They make my 945s look big.

So I got my set of Blueprints today. Amazing...they are as long as my i500’s! That’s fantastic because I know these will be more consistent with their distances. Now that I’m not worried about “smoking” one I feel I’ve gotten the feel element back.

Going from old MP30s to i500s has been tough. The i500 heads just look too damn big! Had S55s and didn’t feel the magic so I went back to the MP30s but those lofts are weaker and I now need some distance help. I thought the i500s could give me that and they have but am having 2nd thoughts. Maybe a blend is my way to go also. Not adding much here but the Mizzys will always be #1 in my heart and to my eye!

Late to the party, but for anyone looking to blend sets, gapping is paramount.  Ping offers clubs in standard, power spec (stronger), and retro spec (weaker) lofts.  So when you go to another model in longer irons, make certain that your finding something that effectively maintains your progression.  This could mean carrying two 6, 5, or 4 irons.  The number on the bottom shouldn't be a deciding factor.

I'm glad I found this topic because I'm in the middle of a full bag transition back to PING.

 

I've currently been fitted to the G425 LST Driver & G425 MAX 3 Wood and am trying to figure out the rest of my bag so I can put my order in through Modern Golf and wait ALL winter because of PING's extreme wait time (which I'm okay with because I ain't swinging much in the snow).

 

I'm a pretty consistent iron player and consider it to be a strength of my game. I also hit very high shots with plenty of spin. I play to a 2-4 handicap, but that's usually because I have days where my putter suffers from the yips or I occasionally fade/slice a driver OB. Irons are pretty solid all around. 

 

I'm looking at going for:

 

1. Blueprints from 4-pw in exactly 4 degree progressions (starting at a retro-spec PW @ 48 and going all the way down to a 4 iron @ 24 degrees) or FULL RETRO SPEC because this essentially turns the 4 iron into a 5 iron and now the whole set is VERY playable-----> I don't place an emphasis on distance as having such a lofted PW will allow me to carry 2 specialty wedges (let's call it a 52/58 or 54/60)

 

2. I'd be looking at putting in either a i500 3 iron (power spec @ 17 degrees) OR a G425 Crossover 2 Iron ----------> Lots of wind where I play, and I need something to flight my usually high tee shots down so I don't get murdered

 

3. Sitting above the 3 wood and 2 iron and under the BP 4 iron, I'm looking for either a 19/22 hybrid or a 7 wood. This is mainly for shots out of the mild rough and landing the ball softly from 200-220 distance. 

 

Any thoughts? I would love some appropriate suggestions before heading into finish my fitting

I had a combo set of the i500/blueprint previously. I actually enjoyed the crossover much more than the i500, to me it had much better feel and for me it had much better turf interaction. As for the hybrid or 7 wood I'd opt for the 7 wood, ping makes a fantastic product and I'm also in the transition of getting all ping back in my bag.

The G425 Crossover 2 iron is an amazing club, don't expect to be able to play stingers - it's a high launch club off the tee for a 2 iron.  However, I also bought it to play in the wind and it is very playable.  My percentage of FW hit when teeing off with it was very high.  No longer in the bag, but I keep it around because it's a great club, and I do play the 4i version as a 4i replacement for forgiveness.

So a little update as to what's in my bag... I ended up going with:

 

G425 LST 9 Degree (Ventus Black 6S 1.25" Tipped, 0.5" short)

G425 MAX 14.5 FW (Ventus Black 7S 1.25" Tipped, 0.5" short)

G425 CrossOver 2 Iron (Aldila NV Green 85S 1.25" Tipped, 1.0" short)

 

PING Blueprint 4-pw - 1 degree weak (Nippon 105X Hard Stepped Once, 0.25" short, Blue Dot)

PING Forged Pro 53 std. bounce & 58TS

 

I still have one spot available in my bag, I expect there to be a gap between my 24.5 degree 4 iron and the 18 degree 2 iron.... I'd like something that I can get landing with a steep angle that goes between 200-215 to fill that spot after the 4 iron.

 

Let me know any suggestions... I was thinking a G425 19 Hybrid turned up a bit with the same shaft as the Crossover and maybe 0.25" longer
